Ok to bring as carry on? - Dell 2005FPW wide screen monitor?

Im flying back home for the holidays and could save about $20 by bring this as a carry on rather than shipping via UPS, Fedex, etc.

You think airport security will have a cow over a flat screen monitor? I should be able to fit it in my backpack. (without stand).

there shouldn't be a problem with security.

however, stowage when you're on the plane might be a pain in the ass. with regular back-packy stuff, you can stuff and squish it all until it fits under the seat in front of you. with the monitor, there will be no squishing. if it does happen to fit snuggly under the seat, you'll have to be real careful where your feet, and, if you're in the aisle seat, the feet of the people next to you, go.

i'm not sure of the specifics of how much room you have under the seat in front of you. as a rough estimation, i can fit my laptop, a bottle of water (back when you can still bring that type of contraband) and one foot side-by-side under the seat. i leave my other foot in the aisle (yes, i pull it in when people are passing by) or gently rest it on the backpack.

Let's not even get into putting it in the overhead compartments.

They'll allow it. But if you want peace of mind, why don't you call the airlines or check out TSA.

I did the same thing when I flew back from Dallas / FT Worth to Seoul, last Christmas.

There was no problem...the monitor was in the original carton.

If I get to my seat first the overhead bin will have my regular bag in it. You can stuff your monitor under the seat in front of you.

If you're that set on doing it, Take the screen with you, pack the stand in your checked luggage.

Whatever you do, don't call the airline. They'll just lie to you. I'd just show up with it and if they say you can't take it, toss it in the trash. Afterall, you're saving $20.

OK. I don't know how large the carton is for the Dell, but my 19 in wide screen in the original carton was no problem as a carry on. :Q
