I have Norton 2007. this has virus, span, adware/spyware, and protection for the other stuff. Since i have this, is ok to disable Windows Defender? do they do the smae thing? I am trying to eliminate unnecessary proccesses as well as start up programs and i am going to start with the ones that seem obviouse. this was one i am not sure about.
Thanks

It's okay as long as you feel confident with Norton. Personally I like having lots of protection.

Im biased (I work for Symantec) but yes, the protection overlaps and NIS or NAV is a superset of defender since it includes other types of malware.

I'm an external tester for Symantec, and I've done both on differnet machines. Seems fine either way. The only thing I'd worry about with both running would be potential conflicts, but I've yet to run into any situations where a conflict occured.

In short, do whatever you feel comfortable doing, and you'll likely be fine. I tend to run both on my "faster" machines, and just Norton on some of my older ones.
