OK to plug off Abit KT7 chipset fan?

its loud and annoying but Im afraid turning it off might allow it to overheat or something.. is it potentially harmful to plug it off?

i would say yes. it's on there for a reason. i know what you mean about it being loud though, i've noticed they tend to go bad easily. try

1) taking sticker off fan, and putting a drop of oil in it
2) replacing fan

Uh, you mean un-plug it? No there shouldn't be any problems. Abit just put the fan on there just incase. It may help stability, but no one knows.

There are plenty other KT133 motherboards out that don't have them.

Its there because they want it to o/c higher and because it is a selling point for that reason. It will not hurt you to remove it. A friend of mine did when his failed, the hs gets a little warm, but his delta exhaust keeps it cool.

This has been posted here several times and many people have had the same problem with these fans. Email Abit tech support and you will have a new fan in your mail box in less than two weeks.
