Do you expose your deepest held desires and fantasies to your real estate agent ? Do you tell them your darkest secrets ? do you get physically intimate with them ?
Obviously some will view the exchange as very casual and not trouble themselves overly in anayalizing it but I'm betting there's a goodly percentage who's main social/ sexual interactions are with escorts and it's those of whom I'm speaking .
Actually, I do get "intimate" with my financial planner. In order to assist me in the best way possible, he has to understand my hopes and dreams. I also used to have debt problems, and that was something that NOBODY knew about. It's hard to talk to someone about that, and while I was opening myself up, he was just looking at me as another client.
I'm not saying that this is on the same level as having sex with him (because first off, that would make my heterosexual life questionable at best), but again, I separate the times where I just have sex with someone for the sake of enjoyment and the times where I have sex with someone that I'm emotionally intimate with.
I'm not denying that some people will take the exchange as more than just casual, and in fact my earlier post flat-out states that I understand that some will view it this way and/or become dependant on that kind of relationship. But the question is whether or not Val should feel responsible for this. I don't believe she should, personally. I'd imagine that her experience is more of a bell curve. For every psychotically obsessed person she encounters, there's a perfectly normal gentleman that just enjoys her company, or a guy whose wife is dying that just needs a shoulder to cry on. Most people fall somewhere in-between and probably aren't any worse-off than they were before.
EDIT: Valkyrie, please tell me if I'm completely off in my assumptions. I'm curious to know what your experience tells you.
