I just placed my order with Newegg. I figure the unlocked multiplier, 6 mos same as cash, & with my luck, if I had purchased the 1055-T, someone would have shown some kick A** benchmarks, etc with the 1090-T that would probably have p***ed me off.

Now I read the Anandetech review showing they got the cpu up to 3.8 ghz on the stock cooler, by increasing the multiplier. I was wondering if anybody knew of any good/cheap aftermark cpu coolers that do not require me to remove the MB from the case.

Thanks

I wouldn't care what ever benchmarks someone else would show, if I paid $125 for a 1055T.

Well since I'm interested in ECC Ram then I believe I'm greatly limited in overclocking opportunities. I don't really understand DDR3 overclocking, multipliers, and ratios, but with 1333 max I think I'll need those unlocked multipliers.

The 1090 has the same rebate on tigerdirect.....

I did...I get sick of FSB limitations (or whatever the current term is, I forget, I know its not really FSB)

I pulled the trigger on a i5 750 setup from FS/FT instead. This is a really good showing AMD, but I'm waiting til BD to come back (I miss my Athlon 4000+ San Diego I OC'd to 3.2gHz)

This was soooooooooooo tempting since I just got a i5 750 last weekend... But $185 for motherboard and processor was an excellent deal, and all I do is game, so the 750 really is the ideal CPU for that. Still, the e-peen wants me to have a 3.2ghz 6 core chip in my machine!?$&@ If I hadn't already built his machine I would be all over this.

I think I am going to get it this weekend. I would like to pick up a i7-930, but I made the decision not to buy an Intel processor anymore after reasing the AMD complaint (http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/DownloadableAssets/AMD-Intel_Full_Complaint.pdf) The i7 has the performance I want, but I am not going to give money to that corporation. Too bad there aren't more options.

I won't go into my personal experiences that make this complaint really hit home, but suffice it to say, this type of practice doesn't just stifle innovation and competition, it hurts those of us that design the better products that no-one will buy for political reasons.

I'm ine the same boat as far as bios goes. Gigabyte did say myboard is compatible. I emailed them inq. About an updated bios

I went with a 1090T since I'm on DDR2 and a 790GX board...so don't want to run into fsb limitations.

As a side-note, I really hope Gigabyte releases a BIOS update in a timely manner for my board.

I wanted to get that tigerdirect deal but I can't figure out if they are going to support it. I contacted them and they said "We already sent board to AMD for X6 processor validation, please check back with us in two weeks."
I guess that means they have a BIOS developed and are getting AMD to OK it??? Doesn't make sense...

^Yeah they said the exact same thing to me when I contacted them. I think they will eventually have it but it may take a bit of time.

Ordering now, first for work then I'll see it for home. Also next week I'll order 3-4 1055T-based config, to build a test farm for Server & Hyper-V 2008 R2 Live Migration and Clustered Shared Volume.

BTW, I have a sunbeam core-contact that you MIGHT be able to do without removing the motherboard. Let me use it Friday, and watch for my temps report. $30 last I saw (usually 40)

I ordered both a 1055 and a 1090. I am running unlocked 805s I got at frys on clearance on three htpcs in the house so upgrading all of them to X6's will be fun. I run a total of 9 htpcs with the builds in sig for the good ones. I have video matrixed out to the entire house but I still like to have a tuner in each box so every room is independent of the central Uverse box. Last weekend the nephews visited and we had every room in the house playing TF2 and it was fun as hell....

Will post results when I get some time...
