Well like the title says I have a wierd XP problem (well did have, switched to 2000). I found out how to make the user right management like it in in 2000, so you can right click a file or directory or drive and got to security and change who does and does not have access to that particular area. Well I really messed things up. I could not access my account at all. I tried running a repair but that would not work. I tried reinstalling windows and I would get an error about 1/4 of the way through the re-install after fdisk and format, and would get an error that windows setup had been stoped to prevent damage to my computer.
I was like what the hell! I tried several times each time trying different things trying to get it to work. I tried resetting all bios options to default. I tried removing everything from within the case that was not required to boot and install an os. Tried reseating the vid card, mem, nic, and resetting the bios with the jumper on the mb. So even after all of this still could not re-install XP. I then decided to write zerso to the drive which took over an hour and still could not isntall XP.
So I said screw this and isntalled 2000. I am at work right now. I wil lhave to continue this later.
So, I am off work now.
Right, I can't get XP to reinstall. What could be causing this problem? This is a brand new MB (MSI KT3 Ultra). I have not flashed the bios yet. The problems fixed with the last, most recent bios, and only bios update for this board are not problems that I am having. The mem is Samsung (the real stuff, not on 3rd party pcb) true DDR 2700 256kb. One stick which I have populated each slot with to make sure that each slot does indeed work and they do. 1 gainward GF2ti (golden sample) which I had clocking at 300gpu and 500mem without any hitches in 3DMark 2001se nor any locking up in any of the games that I play (some of which are Q3A, UT, Ghost Recon, ONI, Max Payne, and more). All of them with settings of at least 1024X768 most higher all of them having 32bit color and 32bit textures (or whatever the highest texture settings would be). Running an FTP server in the background along with NAV, ZA, MMS, and varrious other services when ever I play them. Cable internet with speeds between 3.5 and 4.5 mb/sec, never lower sometime even higher but not sustainable (had to brag
I told you all of the previous just to give you an idea of the working condition of my system. Any ideas on what could possibly be causing the problem? Temps are fine in the bios, can't remember exact temps accept they were acceptable. Running an athlon1000 no ocing (have and had been running at 1200) currently. I have not unlocked the processor either. Windows 2000 is running like a dream on it right now.
