Okay I have a hard time believing this PC isn't fast enough for HDTV...

I just got DVICO FusionHDTV3 card from FS/FT.

Installed it fine, got the latest driver from Dvico. The HD channels seem to stutter every 4-5 seconds. I've tried all combination of decoders found in the config and it still persists. I hoping there is an error or something since my PC seems quite fast enough:

Intel Xeon dual-core 2.8 Ghz
2 Gigs of ram
Geforce 7600GS 512mb
XP SP3

I have a hard time believing this machine is simply not fast enough. Is there something you may know? Thanks.

Is the 7000 series GPU even capable of decoding HD very well?

If the problem was from watching a Bluray movie then the 7600 would be at fault. But the HD tuner card is doing all the decoding not the video card. So i suspect its a problem with the card or you need a better card.

HD tv channels are still encoded in mpeg2 format. You want the GeForce 8xxx & up, or the Radeon HD cards to get onboard VC-1/AVC/h.264 decoding. A 7600GS is *plenty* capable of playing an HD mpeg2 video. Heck an onboard 6100 plays HD mpeg2 just fine.

I'm going to guess that the problem is what plagues all tuner cards - crappy software?

its not the video gpu. even old intel chips were able to do hd video.
something else is making it hickup. and hdtv non bluray is low bitrate relatively. quite easy for any modern system

Well, what do you suggest? A good 3rd party software pr work this out?

hdd? what are you doing at the same time? these software tend to provide instant playback which involves a hdd that it writes to.

ps you might want to ask a mod to move this over to the audio &video home theatre forum. You might get more opinions.

Yeah your system is overkill for an HDTV card. I watch OTA hd channels all the time on my 2.8 P4 1gb ram and 9800pro. I know mine would never play blueray but my ati hdtv wonder has no hiccups on this system set to 1080p - only recieves 1080i OTA though. I would look at your drivers and maybe find some better software - I use the included ati multimedia center software with mine

to render a H.264 @ 1920X1080 the min specs for cpu is a C2D @ 2.0ghz. Without hardware acceleration.

I know he meets it, but im just giving this info out. :T

Drivers, most likely. Does the Divco card to onboard hardware encoding? Have you checked your CPU usage while watching an HD channel? I'm assuming you're talking about live TV - which HD is it using as the steam's cache?
