Okay, serious Q: Windwaker HD vs original

Any opinions on this one?

Like, a big part of me feels that wind waker is best on like an old CRT tv and that the new HD lighting and stuff kind of detract from the experience.

As someone who just bought the windwaker edition wii u I feel that my monies were well spent. Picked up nintendo land used for $20. Pretty much the two best games for Wii u at the moment.

Visuals comparison... well you don't even need to put them side by side. Playing the HD version at 1080p is fantastic, it looks gorgeous. No comparison required unless your eyes are full of mud and rocks.

Yeah, I've seen a few youtube comparisons...it's subjective though. Like, the increased draw distance looks attractive...but the new features are probably going to be really distracting.

Don't need a CRT. Original was 480p over component and new one is 1080p over HDMI.

CRT is only really needed for pre 480p or pre component video where you need RGB inputs.

I'm loving the HD version. Absolutely gorgeous, and the small gameplay tweaks are nice as well. This version really holds its own against many newer games.

Doesn't matter, its all horrible.

This game is worst of all the zeldas. I played it for too long and then put it down. Having to play a different melody all the damn time was just a time sink and a huge huge letdown. I don't see how anyone could finish this game as you just lose the will to play it it is that tedious. There is just no redeeming quality in this game to want to ever play it again.

I'm of the opposite opinion. IMO, windwaker was the best zelda.

It took me longer to finish WW than any other Zelda, and I actually put it down and came back later several times in the process. A lot of things felt unnecessarily slow or drawn out, a problem which has continued to plague the series. The biggest ones I can think of are rupee/treasure pickup messages and super long chest openings, and repeating, unskippable cutscenes. The pickup messages are unnecessary and irritating as hell, especially late in the game, and the long chest openings are just too numerous. That said, I still enjoyed the game's design, and would like to go through the HD release at some point.

A lot of the changes (and there are a lot) in the HD version were implemented to reduce the tedium. They speed up, streamline, or eliminate a lot of the uneventful time wasting from the original.

The few items I mentioned before weren't shown on the list and I haven't seen them mentioned in any reviews. Does anybody know if they've been addressed at all? I would love to replay WW, TP, and SS but I'm always hesitant to start or I quit early because of some of the sloppiness that Nintendo doesn't seem to want to do anything about.

Ignoring that doofus, the HD remake is pretty great. I would definitely recommend it over the original.

Wind waker... random exploration took too long... sailing around the water only to find your path blocked.. having to get one item, then spend all this time sailing around to get whatever upgrade... better off not exploring and just playing the storyline straight through which is not something I do with adventure rpg games. I did like it though, just not as much as others in the series. Twilight princess was way too easy.. enemies should have done 4x the damage. Even the hardest dungeon in the game, that one in the desert, was doable in the first try.. once I beat that I stopped playing and never beat the game.

I agree... OoT was one of the best games I've ever played. I'm wondering if it is because it was the first 3D Zelda though and they got all the elements right?

I bought WWHD recently and it looks gorgeous and plays extremely well. Actual native 1080P is so rare in console games nowadays and is a real treat. I was chilling with some friends last weekend and when switching games around throughout the night from WWHD to GTA5 on the 360 the jaggies were just so distracting. I pretty much have to call it a must have for Wii U owners.

Yes, I played all of them except Minish Cap. I more than likely will get the 3DS one.

Twilight Princess is 2nd on my list. If it didn't have those stupid gimmicky controls, it would have been neck and neck with OoT.

Windwaker is my least favorite Zelda game as well (barring the 3DO iterations).
It just didn't appeal to me in any way. I've tried to play it quite a few times and can't get into it, even after playing through the majority of the game.
