Oklahomans you must be PROUD to have elected Tom Coburn as your new Senator!

What clever people you Oklahomans are, who would have thought that you were so politically wise? I mean I thought that South Carolina's new Senator "Jim DeMint" would surely get my vote as the new biggest Bigot in the House, I think I might be wrong though!

Senator Coburn does think that the gay agenda will undermine this country, but DeMint thinks [ahem] "gays" should not be allowed to teach in public schools. This is a tough one, let me think a little bit more here. Coburn did say that he heard that "lesbianism" was running rampant in Oklahoma schools, so I'll give him that, but....DeMint did also say that a pregnant single moms shouldn't be allowed to teach either. Then there is always John Thune......

Anyway, three cheers for all you Oklahomans who voted for Coburn in the Senate - who would have thought that you would be so socially and culturally educated? And to think that we all just thought you kept quiet and grew wheat all day? It must of been a really hard choice to vote, considering Coburn ran on "good vs evil" campaign - kind of made the decision a little easier, huh? A no brainer! I mean, why even bother thinking for yourselves when the decision is so plain and simple - good vs evil. Sounds a lot like the campaign slogan for, oh who was it? That guy from Texas or something?

I can't wait for our Senator "Patrick Leahy" to wipe the floor with Tom Coburns ignorance and bigotry, I might just make a trip to D.C to watch With all due respect to you Oklahomans who didn't vote for Coburn - this sincere post wasn't directed towards you at all.

Although Tom Coburn is clearly a wacko (he has publically said that black people are genetically predisposed to dying young, and that doctors who perform abortions should be put to death), this post seems like a gratuitous, insulting call-out, and I'd rather we refrained from that kind of trolling.

and as bad as he is, the guy he was running against was even worse.

during the one interview I saw with him, he came across as being much further to the right than Coburn, if you can imagine it.

when all's said and done, though, extreme right-wingers are good for the left, much like the Michael Moores of the world are good for the right.

How many times do I have to apologize to you tonight DonVito?

I guess your right (again) that my post was a gratuitous, insulting call-out (You forgot sarastic ). I don't want to find myself turning into the very troll-like posters I see here all the time. I just sometimes take a step back and can't help but see the reality of this country's future once again slap me in the face and I feel almost helpless to change it. I guess everyone needs to vent once in a while, I mean look i've been here over 5 years and just over a 1,000 posts, it's not like i'm venting every day!

Anyway, sorry if I've offended anybody here - especially Oklahomans. I'd much rather see some rational input on this topic, i'll try to refrain from sarcasm. can i go now?

More people have seen the ONE or TWO things that Coburn said, and therein lies the problem for both candidates.
On a local level, Coburn has blocked many progressive bills that would have helped Oklahoma. But, because of pork barrel sh!t added to them, yes his postition that it is enough to vote against them on a `moral` position is commendable. But in the real world, there has to be compromise and sometimes ya cant win em all (at once). Try to get em next time? No, he spouts the famous quotes posted above and panders to the Religious right, which is a vast majority in the state and also got him elected obviously, but, they are NOT the only people who live here.

Before you start criticizing the electoral choice of another state perhaps you should explain what your state's excuse is for sending declared Socialist Benie Sanders to Congress for the last 14 years.

No need to apologize, VTRider.

I just feel as though I have to be an equal-opportunity referee if I'm going to point out conservative trolls. I perfectly understand your frustration. I was honestly no fan of Oklahoma when I lived there, though the likeable shinerburke is a Sooner.

Likeable? I'm flattered.

Anyway....about Coburn. A lot of the quotes you see tossed around about him are taken out of context. He is a bit right....even for me....at times....but I admire the fact that he will vote against something if it contains pork even if it would benefit the state. In my opinion we need more like him.

LOL - I know this response is painfully predictable from your perspective, but I find it hard to imagine a context in which I would say that abortion doctors should be put to death. Actually I can imagine a context that would kinda sorta explain the comment about black people and their lifespans, but given what I know of Coburn I'm not inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

That's why I said "a lot of the quotes"

There's no doubt he is a bit out there.....but Carson...ewww....I know people that know his family very well and are Democrats themselves....they told me over and over again that they would never vote for him because he was such a brown nosing spoiled brat.

I'd have to agree with the assessment. His concession speech was a rambling, slobbering, drawn out, long, rambling.... did i say it was rambling and long winded?? As with the presidential race, it came down to a lesser of 2 evils thing.

Excuse? Let me make this simple...we don't need an excuse.

I see your point, but aren't we talking about apples and oranges here though? I mean being an Independent, Socialist or whatnot doesn't include bigotry in your political platform.

Socialism and bigotry, both are wrong.

Look at all the wonderous examples of bigotry here in P&N these past few days--where are your complaints?

Funny you should link to a Cherokee site....they are about to be under investigation for vote tampering. In the days before the election they sent out letters to the tribal members here that made it sound like if they voted for Coburn they would lose their tribal benefits. Not a "if you vote for him he will vote against tribe issues" sort of letter, but a "vote for him and if we know who you are we will take your benefits" kind of letter. They could also be in trouble for voter fraud very soon. From what I have heard, from someone in the know with the tribe, it seems as though the Chief(a friend of Carson) and some of the other tribal leadership collected blank absentee ballots from tribal members in exchange for extra benefits. Then they turned around and filled out those ballots for Carson. That part hasn't hit the news yet, but should soon.
