"Inherited" an old system with a PII 300 and PC66 SDRAM. I'd like to upgrade to Win2K and wanted to move to a faster CPU and ram. Now, as I recall, some if not all the 440's could run Katmi (sp?) P3's and PC100 not? Have been looking for solid info most of the day but nothing undisputable yet............

Tell me what you know!

Well, there ya go....LOL!

All I can get off the thing is: "Super P6SBA"

No other difinitve markings. it has 3 ISA and 4 PCI slots along with an AGP. It is of course a "slot" board and has 3 dimm banks for SDRAM.

That particular Supermicro board of yours is not compatible with the Powerleap Tualatin adapters. Usually, there is a chance that if its not compatible with the Powerleap adapters, it may also be not compatible with the Upgradeware adapters but the only sure way of knowing is to test it.

SUPER P6SBA Specs

I wonder if that Upgradeware Slot-T would actually work. VRM might be limited to 1.8 V (or higher) on older boards, and who knows about the BIOS since the last ones seem to be from 3-4 years ago. OTOH, a PIII 1 GHz has been tested to work.

It shouldn't be a problem as the Upgradeware Slotket has its own VRM ( I've tested it with old Intel-made BX boards that don't support anything higher than 1.8v by themselves and the Tually's ran at their rated voltages). The problem, if any, might be more BIOS related.

Well, put it this way, the bios option are "limited" at best and leave a WHOLE lot to be desired...............just now checking for bios updates!

OK, you owe me BIG for this piece of information. :frown:

I was walking thru the store today and low and behold, US$35 for this very board. So I bought one to use with an old Celeron 400. Board revision 2.00.

I couldn't find my VGA card anywhere so I ripped out my Radeon 7200 and stuck it in there. Plugged in the power supply and nothing... WTF?

So I tried reseating everything. Still nothing.

Then I came to a nasty realization... I STUCK MY @#$@#^@#$@ RADEON IN BACKWARDS!!! Auuuuggggghhh! Turned it around and... still nothing. I put the Radeon back in my PC and NOTHING. BEEEEP!!! So I guess I fried my Radeon.

The stupid part is shortly thereafter I found my VGA card. Plugged it into the PC and it works fine. I'm now posting from a 1 MB Trident 8900C Windows XP box. 640x480 x 256. colours. :|

Anyways, the to make a long story short, I then ripped out my Celeron 1.4 with Slot-T and stuck it on the Supermicro board. To my surprise it posts just fine. I didn't boot anything since I didn't have any drives hooked up to it.

It only gets seen as 1000 MHz though, and it doesn't recognize the CPU, but like I said it seems to work.

Plugged a video card in backwards? OUCH! Take a trip to the FS/Trade forums. There should be something there for ya if you don't mind used. For new, Radeon 8500 or GF3 Ti200 would do.

Cool. A lot of boards are that way. They will only display what the BIOS is able to, but it will still be running @ 1.4 since the multiplier is locked.

Yeah, sticking the card in backwards was pretty damn stoopid. Without the case as a guide it was too easy. There is no holes to prevent putting it in that way like there is for memory, etc.

It turns out I can get a 128 MB 9100 locally. Might just go for that.

I have an Asus P2b-f which is a 440 bx slot1 motherboard. I was able to upgrade my system using a superslocket adapter. I have seen these on pricewatch for $5-$10. I used a PIII850 fcpga with this system (100mhz fsb) everything worked fine..... I upgraded the memory with 2 sticks of 256 mb pc133 ram. I was even able to overclock this system to 1Ghz with no problems. The bios for your mb is probably the key to an upgrade of this type. You may be able to find out what bios is available for your board at motherboards.org. They have a search function on the site to help you identify your board by bios or serial numbers.

Mind if I ask how in the hell did you do that?
edit: just read that you didn't have it in the case, but ... ! oh nevermind.

Yes, I'm an idiot. I already know that.

Good excuse to go Radeon 9100 shopping though.

In the end I'm only out $30 or so maybe since for this Supermicro Celeron 400 all I need for it is Rage 128 or whatever. No gaming on it (obviously). I was planning a new Radeon anyway for the Celeron 1.4, although I was originally planning to wait a couple of months for perhaps a 9500 or something.

My Celeron 1.4 is on an Asus P2B.
