old a$$ed box

i have come into a old acer p2 233 box with get this 16 meg of ram and w95rather than sent it to the junk heap i figured maybe i can use it a a router /firewall.
is there an os that this thing will run with a simple firewall software?
am i dreaming here?

As long as you do not plan on having more than 6-10 users on
at a time there should be no reason why you couldn't use it.

Just throw Linux on it along with a opensource Firewall distribution
like Smoothwall and you should be good to go.

hell ya, 233mhz rig would work fine.

Check out the Smoothwall and IPCop firewall distros. They will run on it.

ive heard of some tiny distro of linux with router software built in that cna boot off of floppy, forget what its called, but then you dont need a hard drive...do a google and see if you can find anything

Smoothwall provides Excellent Documentation with its product.

Probably not. You'd need 128mb ram to get the full GUI, and the load time would be kinda long...

I agree with LiLithTecH, there aren't many "guides" to do this stuff. If you pick something like Smoothwall or IPCop though, it's pretty easy, and the documentation is really good.

debian netiso + shorewall is straight forward and doesnt need a fancy GUI. admin is through SSH / local console and simple text files
