I have an old Asus A7V400MX + AMD Sempron 2200+
It boots up sometimes and sometimes it doesn't .. I mean, its sorta intermittent.
Under normal circumstanceas, once you power up the CPU after sometime a 'beep' comes and the three LEDs in the keyboard viz. Num Lock, CAPS lock and Scroll lock come up and the ASUS A7V400MX Screen shows up ...
But when it doesn't boot, I click the Power Switch on the Cabinet and it is 'ON', There is also separate power to the monitor, so it is also 'ON', but the beep sound doesn't come and so doesn't the above mentioned Keyboard LEDs (to ON ie.) and the boot screen of the motherboard doesn't show up!
What could be the problem area ???
My guesses:
1 GB Transcend DDR400 RAM -> Not a problem
PSU - 400W -> Doesn't seem a problem to me...
Sometimes, when it does boot up, it says 'CMOS Checksum error' Press F1 to continue..
At this instance (when it does come up), my old boot priority settings would have been deleted..
Clearing RTC for this doesn't help! (I've tried)!
So could it be a Battery problem? (the motherboard battery as it's an old mobo, not used for like an year or so - was just lying idle in the cupboard)
Or simply a cable problem? (Maybe, If I remove every IDE cable and fix them up again, it might run.. But I need to know the exact problem/solution...)
