The amps on the 12 volt might be low, if ATI card. Are you sure it is 24 amps maximum. That seems low for a 550 watts PS, especially a good brand like Enermax. I am not sure if ATX form PSU have more than 18 or 20 amps on one rail but that might be 24 amps on one rail and about 40 total. Although if you multiple amps by volts (from ones your listed) for wattage it comes to 650 (the model number) which probably means it produces 650 watts at peak and true 550 throughout.

Are you sure those volts and amps are correct?

I can not fidn that model on Enermax but found this one:

EG565AX-VE (W) / EG565AX-VE (G) / EG565P-VE
AC Input AX-VE(W) 100-240VAC 50-60Hz 9.5~ 4A
AX-VE(G) 230VAC 50-60Hz 4.3A
P-VE 115 / 230VAC 50-60Hz 12A / 6A
DC Output +3.3V +5V +12V1 +12V2 -12V +5Vsb Total Power
32A 32A 18A 18A 0.8A 2.5A 535W
265.5W 408W ( 34A ) 9.6W 12.5W
512.9W 22.1W

Check back of your PSU, it should have a table like above. Check at bottom of 12V1 and 12V2, it should give a total wattage and amps, as that web sit diagram does. Yours is probably 34+

LOL, what was that?

OP, I get 650W too when I add up your rails. From the sound of the specs provided, that PSU should run anything out there except maybe a real power hungry Crossfire system.

It's an older model with 650watts peak and 525watts for +5 +3.3 +12. I checked the side label and that is what it said. The amperage is correct.

I want to run future DX10 cards with this.

He has an old model Enermax. These were built back when CPUs ran on 5V+ rail. Thus, manufacturers put most of the ampage on the 5V+ rail and didn't emphasize too much on the 12V+.

24amps on the 12v rail will probably not be enough for DX10 cards.

the x1950xtx recommends having 30amps on the 12v rails

I'm going to keep my Enermax PSU as long as I can. Mine was made specifically for the AMD thunder K7 motherboard (with an adapter) but works fine with other motherboards and has served me well.

Edit: Just looked at mine, and I have the same model. I plan on keeping mine for the next generation, if possible.

From what I heard, the very next generation of cards will require a lot of power, and then they should start decreasing the power requirements, like cpu's have recently done. At least that's what I hope will happen.
