Before computers, back in the early (80 -83) eighties, I was an audiophile. A company called hafler marketed power amp and preamp kits. Over a period of 24 hours I built a hafler DH - 200 amp and a DH - 101 preamp. Built a system with a Yamaha PF -800 turntable, a Yamaha T-300 Am-FM tuner and Kef 103.2 speakers. I changed cartridges a few times over the years and right now the turntable carries a 4 - 5 year old Grado midrange price cartridge whose model number escapes me. I have "spares" in a Grado G1 cartridge, a Sumito "Pearl", an Osawa MP-50 and a Garrott P-77 cartridges. Don't ask how many vintage 33 1/3 vinyls I have.

About a year ago the Amp went south on me a second time. The push switches on the preamp began sticking after cleaning them up a second time. I said to my self one of these days I'll break out my old soldering iron if I can find it and try to get everything working again. I haven't.

So, the amp and preamp will go to good will. Is there any value for resale for the rest of the equipment??? or should I just give the kit an kaboodle to Good Will? Every thing works except the amp and preamp.

Go easy on me folks, I'm looking at having 78 wonderful years come June.

You kidding? The basics of hi-fi audio reproduction hasn't changed very much over the decades, and as a result, vintage audio equipment has a large collector base and some of the better stuff still commands very high prices.

www.audiokarma.org is one of the bigger vintage audio communities out there.

I'm not up to date on the latest market values, but your equipment is definitely worth over $200. Even the amp and preamp, which although not top of the range stuff, is worth something in non-functional condition.

You aren't in Texas by chance, are you? I'd pay for some of that stuff...

I was going to say you can certainly send them to me. I'll gladly take them off your hands, no charge!

Surely you are trolling. A quick Google search would tell you that the Yamaha PF-800 in working order is worth around $300 by itself and is in a lot of demand.

'70's Hi-fi has been collectable for quite awhile now, it was a "no-holds barred" period of huge, expensive, receivers, the top of the line Pioneer, Marantz, Kenwood, Yamaha's were around $1000 and that's '70's dollars, what you got in return was a beefy machine that could put out it's rated power from 20-20Khz, no skimping on the power supplies on these babies, I have a Kenwood KR-9400, it weighs like 55 lbs LOL, the power supply transformer is as big as a meatloaf..

As someone's already mentioned, the TT still commands a good price. I'm not really into tuners but they're a little more difficult to move. If I saw a local PF-800 for ~$250, I'd probably pick it up assuming good working condition. That's less than it's worth but I'd buy it just to play around with it.

The KEF speakers are pretty well known, you should be able to get a few hundred for those too. i bet they sounded pretty amazing with the Hafler gear.

If the truth be known guys, I really don't want the hassle of trying to sell any of these items. I googled as suggested and found that I could get a fair return on my stuff including a Denon switchable transformer for either MM or MC cartridges - - - but it is about the only thing I would consider packaging and shipping. The Hafler amp must weigh 30 pounds or more and is 5" high by 16" wide by 9 1/4 inches deep. It has extruded end pieces that serve as heat sinks for the power output devices. Their corners/edges are sharp enough to cut through a not well insulated/padded package. I have absolutely no remembrance of how it was packaged when I bought it but I think the end pieces were separate before assembly.

The turn table is platter suspension type and must be either disassembled (remove platter) or adjusted down to the suspension limits before it can be safely shipped. The turntable has a bit of weight on it too. It goes without saying that shipping the speakers is a big deal.

If anyone is within 75 miles of 24416 and would be willing to make arrangements for a meet half way transfer of an item I would be willing to consider doing that.

We can discuss the details via hosea46@comcast.net.

I'm not close enough to meet you but depending on the model step-up transformer, I might be interested. LMK, PM is fine.

Unfortunately I'm no where near you. I'm sure there's plenty of others that would be interested. Best of luck.

Ya got that right, I still have my Kenwood Trip 777Z's as dual sub woofers, I hated the day my old 701 amp died.
