Old Mobo, New VidCard - not working

I'm upgrading an old computer, just for the heck of it really. It's got a K7T Pro2-A Motherboard with an AGP slot on it. A friend has a Ti4200 video card that he's letting me have cheap. I slotted in the new video card, and I have some serious video corruption that results, with lines of garbage running vertically up and down the screen. It posts, but you can't read the text, and won't boot Windows at all. The old video card works fine (it's ancient - a GeForce2 Pro, I think).

I thought it could possibly be a power issue - the old PS only has something like 12A on the 12V rail - so I unplugged all the hard drives and CD-ROMs, leaving only the motherboard and video card hooked up, but the same problem occurred.

So I guess they're not compatible, but I have several things that I don't know. First, neither my friend nor I are sure what kind of video card it is (other than that it's a Ti4200) and so we don't know for sure if it's AGP 8X or not. Second, I think the reason the motherboard doesn't list that it's AGP 8X compatible could be because 8X didn't yet exist when I bought the mobo. Third, even if the mobo isn't 8x compatible and the video card is an 8x card, I don't know if it would be backwards-compatible with the older mobo.

So what does everybody think - do you think this video card is just not compatible and I should try something else, or do you think it's some kind of issue with the video card or motherboard that I could fix?

I had to do this with a board in which I could not change the setting to 4x. The link shows how to tape a contact to force the board to use 4x. Hopefully it will help.

It should work. Did the card work in another computer?

AFAIK, yes. I haven't tried it on another PC myself, though.
