I have to agree though with everyone else on AA in that any games without it I just can't play. I've really grown accustom to having no jagged lines and even at my native rez of 1950x1080 I can notice the jagged lines.

I think in XP but not Vista. With Vista 64 & nVidia beta drivers I can't see a difference enabling AA in the control panel. The first link says AA can be enabled in XP but says he hasn't tested Vista yet. The second says in Vista you have to disable DX10 to get it:

Tweakguides author discusses AA & Bioshock

Both links lead me to believe it's Vista/DX10 related. Why did I grab Vista when it first came out? Oh yea, something called DX10, supposed to blow my socks off...

Wow that sucks for Vista and DX10 users.

I give a crap, as do many others. Calling them dumb, is your opinion. It matters to me. Sure I can play without it, and have been. Its the point of it. There is zero reason in this day and age to not support WS. It can be done, because its been hacked already. Its also silly to not support AA. Again, it can be done, because its been hacked already.

The fact of the matter is, they pushed out a PC game that could have been better. Its took the community all of one day to "fix" to huge blunders of the game. Which shouldnt have even been there to start with.

I'm glad it's not just me. When I first fired the demo up something didn't seem right to me. Textures and perspective didn't seem right (detail was maxed out). Didn't help that the game ran like a pig. The 360 demo looked better for me but I don't like using the gamepad.

Really excessive crying in this thread. SS2 didn't break new ground graphically either, the game looks great and plays great AND will run on mid range hardware.

After connecting to the internet and activating it two times on different hardware you then need to activate it manually ever single time. So you have to prove yourself to securom due to the copy protection system used. Hoping this isn't for the Steam version as well because if it is this really sucks Though I know this happens with the boxed version.

Welcome to the next generation of gamers who would buy a game that just displays a pile of dog sh!t as long as it's at 1600x1200 with AA.

The textures are really taking away from the game experience? Give me a break.

I know everyone is entitled to set their own expectations, I think it's just the mega-hyperbole that goes over the top.

The game looks way better than BF2 or HL2, I mean seriously.

But I will leave the others to vent as they see fit, I'm loving it so far.

Exactly, I couldn't agree more. Who cares if the game look perfect and you see exactly on widescreen what you would on a 4:3 screen, if you have fun playing the GAME, what difference does it make? I played with no AA for hours yesterday and it never once bothered me, and I'm used to 4X minimum on everything else I play. I didn't notice jaggies because I was busy catching grenades and throwing them back at insane doctors, and shocking zombies and then taking their head off with a shotgun while they're paralyzed, and throwing trash cans at the Big Guys or whatever they're called.

swtethan,

Can you take a quick peek in Device Manager and compare to mine:

Realtek High Definition Audio
Driver Date 8/10/2007
Driver 6.0.1.5464

Thank in advance.

That's what my Device Manager shows and I'm not getting audio either on Vista x86. This is on an Asus P5K (P35 chipset) board, too.

I had audio problems as well. The first scene on the plane was fine, but as soon as it cuts to you being in the water, I had no sound whatsoever.

I tried loaded up the latest drivers from Asus, and re-installing DirectX 10.

What finally worked for me is running it in Windows XP SP2 mode. (Right click on executable within your install directory, hit the Compatibility tab, then select "Windows XP SP2" mode).

Edit: This is with the full version of the game, not the demo.

That is false. The tops and bottoms are chopped off to make it fit WS. Oh, but of course, that's just bellyaching right?

LOFL, they are in full riot mode over there. The secuROM 2 activation limit is like fire to Frankenstein's Monster, just driving them ape shat. The WS, AA, PS2 SNAFUs, just drove it right over the top. All that lip service to how they were putting so much extra effort into exceeding every other game that was ported to both console and PC, and this is the result? There is no joy in Mudville tonight.

/me taps sarcasm meter

The point is the game doesn't look perfect on widescreen. It's a cropped, zoomed view which is far from ideal, especially when one of the devs said widescreen would be supported and you'd "see more". Don't be surprised if people complain that it's broken. They held onto the demo for ages and a basic thing like this is wrong?

PSA: Please do not openly state you intend to pirate the game here on the Anandtech forums. It is against the guidelines, and we, the PC gaming moderators, would have to break out the Ban riot sticks.

That said, I empathize with the reasons why many in the 2K forums are stating just that, but da rules is da rules.

People have been wondering why the game costs more on Steam (over here it's £6 or $12 extra). I guess it's partially justified now as you don't get the Securom authentication bollocks.

Actually it does have securom authentication.

I think he is saying many frustrated users on other forums about Bioshock (2k forums, etc.) are saying they will pirate the game. Thus he is warning folks here who might make the same type of statements for whatever reason.

No one here has....yet. However, over on the 2K forums, nearly every other post, in the thread you linked in the video forum, did. So, I'm just trying to give everyone here a heads up.

EDIT: You were quicker on the draw, HopJokey
