Can't install Bioshock because it won't patch. I am wondering if this is because their website might be down. This sucks not being able to play my new game on my new computer =/ Maybe tomorrow.

First Bold: This seems like BS. I have never heard of a ANY game allowing this, unless it is freeware or something.

Second Bold: More BS... I love how people can make blanket statements like that... Actually, I don't love it, I hate it. The people who are concerned are users on this forum who have been bit in the ass by DRM. If DRM keeps getting worse and worse you are going to find the average joe pirating anything he can get his hands on, just to make a statement. I am becoming less and less sympathetic to publishers whining about pirates. Everygame gets cracked anyway, so why not treat your customers like customers rather than criminals.

Bottom line - 2 Installs = the suck.

This is information from 2K themselves. I don't understand why you call it BS.

If you ever need more than 2 installs, you CALL THEM. God forbid you make human contact. This is the same thing as Windows XP activation. They will GIVE you a new key.

Bottom line: This is not an issue because you will always be able to haev an install. If you can't install for some other, technical reason, that is different.

on the 2k forums people are having this problem and can't get it fixed. NOBODY knows what to do. people are being told that they have to wait until people come back from vacation to get it fixed.

Well if calling doesn't work right now, that is 2K's fault. I doubt that 2K would leave customers out to dry though, so hopefully it'll be dealt with soon. You have to wonder though, how in the 9 circles of hell did these people install and uninstall twice?

EXACTLY, its been less than two days!

Ok, so you have a Laptop, and you have a Desktop. That is the boat I am in... I travel a lot! So, I install the game on my laptop that is powered by ATI graphics. It doesn't run right, so I uninstall the game, and reinstalling it. Same thing... Now, I do the same on my desktop, except that is using nVidia. So, what are the chances the game's graphic drivers are the problem? Not as likely as the game itself being the problem... So, I do the same thing. Bingo, all my installs are done. Now, what if someone decided to reinstall their OS as a result? I find it VERY likely to use up 3-4 installs...

Laptop - Install (used one)
Laptop - Reinstall (There goes #2)

Still does not work... Ok, lets try Desktop

Desktop - Failed install - too many activations. Real hard to duplicate, eh?

if you revamp your system and need to reinstall bioshock, just uninstall it before you go through the overhaul, and then do your reinstall.


Youre only supposed to have two installs anyway

That's silly. HL2 has been used as a good example of a game widely regarded by reviewers and others as 9/10 - 95% and is polished and graphically complete, consistent and designed for PC, as any PC game which gets 9.0+ ratings should be

Yes I downloaded HL1 on steam a few months back. It is a good game but had nowhere near the punch or immersive quality that it did ~10 years ago, because of the very dated graphics.

Are you serious? You're decreeing that 'Halo, Gears of War etc' are overrated as though that's some demonstrable undisputed fact? And you find yourself getting upset regarding my personal opinion about one game?


I don't particularly care if you find Warcraft 3's graphics good or not. I'm certainly not going to chase you around the PC Gaming forum claiming that you're intoxicated because you do. So why it bothers you so that I along with many others have observed what we have in Bioshock is a rather odd IMO.

Hilo, what does the global lighting " checkmark" in the graphics config do ? I haven't really checked it out.

I'm guessing it is static lighting , it sure isn't global illumination is it?

The reason I'm asking is it seems to me the game mixes full dynamic lights with static lighting in most of the game ....

Guess I'll try later ,not going to bother playing the game until patch is installed.

Update:seems patch server is down,nice way to get happy gamers not ,it seems if you cancel the patch server auto update(even if server is down) you got to cancel setup,annoying to say the least.

Mine is retail copy btw.

PC owners trying to install their brand new copy of BioShock seem to have had a rough time of late, with several users reporting that 2K Game's patch servers were down for some hours today.

Installing BioShock on a PC requires a user's computer to connect to 2K's auto patch servers before the game can be played, something made impossible for some time today when the 2K servers crashed. 2K's own forums were alight with disgruntled BioShock buyers who were prevented from playing the game due to the required connection. As of publication time, 2K's official website at http://www.2kgames.com/ was timing out, as was the BioShock http://www.cultofrapture.com/ site.

A 2K Games Australia spokesperson said 2K technicians were working on the issue, and had already added additional servers to help cope with the influx of traffic.

Agree 100%...I find it hard to believe that people are making their judgements based on the demo. The game does not get good and truly engrossing until you are well into the first level IMO. (WAY past where the demo takes you...)

They should have made a better demo then. The whole idea is to make a good impression and get you sucked into wanting to buy it, along with making sure it's gonna work on your machine.

Somebody mentioned invisible 'walls' earlier. I found some last night. When you first get out of the bathysphere(sp?), you can't jump over the railings into the water, yet you can push the suitcases in or throw one of the protest signs over the railings

Phoned Take 2 in the UK, they stated that theres no way the game will do anything until tomorrow in the UK even if the patch servers start working againm, and they didn't even know what time it would start working.

The rest of it was ommitted due to a lot of F words.....

Can someone tell me WHERE THE HECK you get extra slots for the "accessories" upgrades? I'm on Arcadia and still only have *TWO* slots for both engineering/physical upgrades... There are 5 blocked out slots that I'm dying to use.

Wow. See this really is the problem but lucky steam you don't have to go online, I don't think, to activate it. You just need to download the contents of the game from steam.

The demo was awesome, but the DRM and other problems they are having is really making me not want it.

A note to Bioshock players (who are able to play despite its terrible qualities (I kid)):

Don't underestimate the amount of damage throwing objects at zombies can do. use your telekenisis power to chuck things at Big Daddys and they'll be a lot easier (and cheaper) to take down. Start with something bigger like a trash can or crate.

Did you buy the steam copy ? I bought steam Half life 2 package with all the other half lifes and counter strikes and it downloaded fine.

Did you buy the steam copy ? I bought steam Half life 2 package with all the other half lifes and counter strikes and it downloaded fine.

No mine is not a Steam copy, it's retail from GAME pre-ordered,I do have Steam for some of my other games but prefer to have a nice box etc and also can add Bioshock to my games collection on my bookcases,btw update installed fine now ,just doing a defrag before I play the game.

Update wise only took 5 mins once patch server was up.

Ok. This thread is way to large.

Mem how do you think pc gamers will be able to install Bioshock down the road like in 2 to 5 years times ? What if the servers go down indefinitely ? How are you suppose to install it then ?

The only thing I can think of is an image from True image.

Use Lightning Bolt on them and they'll drop to the ground for ezmode work. Personally, I tried that hacking thing on the 360 and it was just . I knew what I had to do, but I just couldn't figure out how exactly to control it before time ran out.

Also, you can zap the camera and destroy it before your alert level goes up too high... that's what I do.

ok, i think it's time for me to learn how to play FPS's with a the damn dual analog sticks.... I actually like how the wii does it, but there ain't no bioshock for the wii. my x1600 can't cut it.. haha
