As stated earlier, that 256MB of VRAM may mean you'll have to use lower resolution textures and/or lower AA. CPU/RAM are more than adequate. Your video card will be the biggest hinderance.

I'm wondering if it would be worth it to install Vista x64 to test out the DX10 capabilities of Bioshock? I'm not sure how well it would run under Vista though...

Gigabyte DS3 (Rev 3.3)
E4300 @ 2700MHZ
2Gigs DDR2 800
8800GTS 640meg

Anyone thing I would have an issue? Would it be worth it to dual boot Vista and test it out?

NO. It will not run, you need to buy 4GB of ram, a Q6600, and sli 8800GTX for it to even run smoothly. Don't forget to get a PhysX card and a Big Gaming NIC card.

I dont know why you people with Core2Duos, 2GB of ram, and 8800GTS asking if this game and/or vista will run on your computer?!

Please...

Perhaps because every other game I've tried in Vista has suffered a massive FPS drop? Just DX9 games.

I posted in another thread a test I did with vista yesterday.
I put it on my workstation and vista choked on the workload that xp could handle.
So I restored my image of xp .
Maybe in a year I'll give vista another chance.
So something is going to have to look fantastic and literally blow me away for me to use vista for now.

Honestly, people who have trouble with vista should upgrade their hardware or update their drivers. Vista is fine imo.

In fact, I find it more stable and faster than XP, but thats just me I guess.

I hope I'm wrong...we'll see.

That's raw, unadulterated pessimism, Noema. There's a great deal of indication that the DX10 rendering path for BioShock was in development for a lot longer than the 1.7 patch for CoH. I don't see a reason to believe that BioShock will run like crap out of the box, especially considering the fact that nVidia 8xxx drivers are finally starting to get DX10 right. Remember, at least part of what DX10 does is make extreme eyecandy less costly in terms of performance.

None that I've seen. Since the game is so close to gold\retail there may not be a demo until after release.

Run that to see how your system stacks up if you want.

My results: http://www.imageannex.com/out....emrequirementstest.jpg

man...ur OCed 8800 puts u TWO notches in front me and my gorgeous Q6600?

edit: its weird though, i get the exact same score whether it be sims 2 or bioshock or lego star wars! :/

Eh, the app apparently isn't the most accurate it seems.
On the first forum i saw this linked to, people with slower systems than mine were getting higher scores, so who knows...

As for the 512MB Video Card...we all here know that Video RAM is not the most important factor for video performance. A 8800GTS with 320MB of RAM can easily outperform a X1600 with 512MB. Publishers usually simplify the specs on the box to avoid confusing the masses.

but large amounts of video ram are useful when pushing high resolutions, in addition to raw gpu power, no?

Oh, certainly. But it's just one of many factors involved in Video Card performance. Look at the benchmarks for the 8800GTS 320 and 640MB. They are not that different.

By the way, there's a mini-podcast in the site I linked earlier with an interview with a member of the team handling the port to PC. He says that game runs great on a 7800GTX with high settings at 1024x768, so hopefully us 8800GTS and GTX owners will be able to get good performance at 1680x1050 and higher.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous if it's true. Are the people without 8800's or the high end 78/900's supposed to play at 800x600? We all have to pay ~$300 (8800GTS 320MB after tax) to play at a decent resolution? It's a small wonder why people would rather buy the 360 version, if this is true.

Why are you acting surprised? It's always been this way. If you want to play the newest, hottest games you have to keep your hardware as close to SOTA as possible. Also, there are lots of reasons why some people prefer consoles.

Is it not sad that as consumers, we've come to accept this situation? We "need" to buy a $300 card to play at 720p, it's pathetic. And the "newest, hottest games" aren't all necessarily so demanding. CnC3, much as I hate the game itself, ran well at high resolutions with $100 cards, and it looked good. It certainly didn't diminish the atmosphere of the game, as playing Bioshock at 800x600 will. I've heard that STALKER runs well as well on modest hardware, though I have no personal experience. It'll be a great day when consumers can buy GPU's with CPU-like market competition.

"The BioShock demo, announced after the world premiere of the BioShock launch trailer on Spike TV, has just now gone live on Marketplace. Boot up your 360s and get downloading. Rapture awaits.

For those of you who are looking for a BioShock demo on the PC, it is in the works and will be out later this month. I'll give you more details about it tomorrow."

We don't have to accept, or buy anything, Ichigo. This is a hobby, and as such the entire endeavor should be fun, not a forced march. No, not all new games push the envelope, but isn't it a safe bet that and least a few will? CnC3 came out at the same time as SupCom did, and even after having the shit tuned out of it, SupCom is a hog of the first order. That's just the way it is. You think that the GPU and CPU availability/pricing will at some point equalize? Maybe, but not for the near future. SKU for SKU, SOTA graphics cards are a fair sight more complex than mass-market CPU's.

You've got ultimate power over how this situation plays out for you. Use it.

I just got a call from my brother telling me he's downloading the demo now.

So we PC gamers don't get a demo yet? And what do they mean "later this month?" The game comes out in a week anyway.

Hmm...as always we have to play second fiddle to consoles. :|

I really don't even care that the pc demo is not out yet. I wouldn't even bother with it. I just have this feeling that its going to be a wonderful game all around, will run well on my pc and will be worth the money. On top of that you have the DX10 features, future mods to make the game even better...etc. It will be the best version and I will buy it the first day its out..totally unspoiled by a demo. I want to see it fresh on my screen when I open up that brand spanking new box.

The devs have said that DX10 adds a little more complexity to the water effects and that's about it. Word is that DX10 performance (Vista), like all the other DX10 patched games out there, is utter garbage. XP+DX9.0c is the way to go.
