I recently upgraded my video card from a 6950 to a R9 290. My power supply is a pc power & cooling silencer 750, which is about 7 years old. It meets the wattage requirements, and has enough amps on the +12V rail. But I have been experiencing some issues.
First of all, my old gpu had an annoying coil whine sound while gaming. The new one has the same issue, but it's a bit louder. I searched online and discovered that it could be the psu causing it.
Second, I get video tdr failures occasionally, but rarely when gaming. It usually happens when waking the computer from sleep. This makes me think its a psu issue.
Basically I'm wondering if I need to upgrade the psu or try something else. And is there any risk of damaging my new gpu with this old psu.
