Speaking of crts, my old (deceased) lowly 27" sony trinitron vega in STANDARD DEF provides a more vivid and sharp picture when fed clean footage than most high def sets out there right now.

I know it's not an apples to apples comparison

Because LCDs suck at standard def. Imagine trying to play 480i picture on your monitor and then trying to blow up those pixels. Yes, LCDs suck at that but they're meant for HD picture. If you go to plasma or DLP, you get much better SDTV.

Try a good LCD HDTV Sony XBR6 52" and you'll see. I have the XBR2, which was replaced by the XBR4 and now 6. Today's 10-bit panels are amazing.

With that said, LCDs have their benefits, and if I had my way, I would've picked the Pioneer Elite Kuro at that time, but I guess 1080p over 720p got to me instead.

Same here. Until an asshat plumber cracked the bowl while clearing a pipe. Now we have one old toilet and one new one.

Old voting machines were much more reliable than the modern attempt at electronic voting machines. (Why again do they have anti-virus software installed on them?)

I once ate my body weight in free buffalo wings at a company picnic, after several trips to the crapper 'Mr Kohler" was still going strong where any of the newer "eco-friendly" toilets would have been gasping..

PS2 mice/keyboards. I really don't know why they removed that standard. It only makes sense that a mouse and keyboard would have it's own dedicated connectors. They are faster to initalize, and given they are MADE for mouse/keyboard, it's not like they are taken up slots you can use for something else, like USB mice/keyboard do now. USB mice/keyboard was the death of KVM switches. Sure you can get USB ones, but if you've ever used one... they suck. There's a huge delay before you can actually start using the mouse/keyboard after switching, sometimes they lock up, etc... PS2, just worked, period.

Oh and yes win2k was by far the best Windows release ever. By today's standards the only thing it really lacks if better support for newer stuff such as USB devices (win2k is a bit flaky with that, like printers and such). If MS did it right they would of taken Win2k, add all the new back end/kernel stuff into it but keep the front end the same. Vista, I wont even go there. Epic fail.

As for toilets, it would make a fun project to take a wimpy eco toilet and overclock it to the max. Yes, overclock a toilet. Would make for a fun geek project.

nevermind the fact that a usb connection allows for more functions and buttons on mice and kbs.

people that say win2k was the best ever are remembering it better than it was. you yourself say it didn't like those new-fangled usb devices. wait til you try one of those crazy video acceleration cards. ignoring xp and bashing vista (for what, i don't know) earns you a great big

I'll grant you that, however it supports a large majority without needing codecs, like FLAC. And frankly, I don't use the formats the codec offers anyways, and I'd rather have the choice of buying a codec than being forced to pay more bundled with.

Also, the screen is larger, its lighter, smaller, and can surf the web with flash. Also, it supports HSDPA.

This is why by today's standards win2k has more issues, but say they made a new release that is basically win2k, but with all those fixes, it would rock. XP is better now that hardware has advanced a lot, but when XP first came out it was way too bloated for the hardware then.

Same with Vista. In 5 years from now when 8 core 128 bit cpus and 32GB of ram is standard on a basic PC, Vista will be not so bad and XP will have trouble supporting whatever else comes out by then.

I forgot to mention Windows 95. It was awesome because it had really cool games such as chips challenge. (I think that may have been an add-on pack though).

ms did repackage win2k, with working usb and better driver support. it's called xp

since about the time sp1 came out, no reasonable computer was too wimpy for xp. no reasonable computer was too wimpy for vista the day it was released. and by "reasonable" i mean "not shitty".
