Bummer Storagereview is going under Wonder if it has anything to do with their forums starting false rumors about XP's not working with MPX mobos

Anyone else found a review on the Ausu board other than at GamePC? Also, what is the latest of the epox board?

I've got the asus board on the way
Ordered it from tc computers and they shipped it out the same day, should be here by thursday or friday, I've also got two athlon xp 1600's from newegg on the way along with a gainward/cardexpert gf3 ti 200 and a 512mb stick of registered ddr from crucial (want the option of using 3 or 4 512mb sticks when I get more money).

If nobody else has posted about the asus board by the time I get everything put together this weekend I'll let you guys know how everything goes.

If I had more time I probably would have waited to see how the other 760mpx boards perform but my dad offered to buy my current 1.4 tbird, 8kha, ddr ram and gf2 from me so he could upgrade one of his old systems and I had to jump on the offer before he changed his mind

Anyway, should start gettin parts thursday, hopefully friday at the latest, I need to get everything put together before I go back to school on sunday. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Most excellent! DUDE, YOU'RE GETTING A DUALLY!

(that's what that morron in the Dell commerical should have said!)

I can't wait to read the update! I was almost in there with you. I've got the memory, and the money for the processors and MOBO, but since I haven't yet decided on a MOBO, I'm waiting to see if procs drop some more while waiting.

Give us all the grimey details!

(Is it okay to have a bit of ENVY here)

I'm looking for people who actually have an MPX motherboard. I need to know first hand the performance and problems encountered with these new boards. I need to make an order soon. Our team is taking some hits from DSLR. I've been using Tiger MPs (5 now) and seriously considering MPX but only if I can overclock the Athlon XPs.

2 words:
Frustratingly awesome...

Dual proc's rule! but I'm having some trouble with my new gf3 ti 200 and my sblive.

gf3 ti 200 locks the system up when running rtcw and quake 3 after a minute or two of gameplay, but when I stick my old gf2 in I can play for hours with no problems. My sblive isn't running either.. I think I'll have to go into bios and manually set irq's for everything instead of letting win 2k use virtual irq's..

So far I love the setup, it's faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast in graphics apps like photoshop, painter, etc. Great for those who work with graphics a lot like I do. But my troubles with gf3, sblive, and even the onboard audio (it doesn't want to work either) are frustrating me to no end

oh yeah, 3dmark2001 locks up on the gf3 too.. grrr

When I get everything running stable I'll see about getting some benchmark numbers for you guys, later...

strikermlc,

I don't think Creative officially supports dual systems with it's sound cards. However, if memory serves, I think there were some updates to their drivers that may have rectified problems for some of the dual Tyan users. You might search/query them in AMDMB.COM or 2CPU.COM to see which sound drivers/cards they're having the best luck with.

I'm using SoundBlaster Live with my Tyan Tiger MP and ATI AIW 128 Pro. I haven't tried any games. I use this machine for Video Capture & Editing as well as surfing the net. BTW, I only loaded the basic SoundBlaster driver from Windows 2000 CD. I only have 3 speakers in this setup so I didn't really need those extra feature.

strikermlc, which cpus are you using with your ASUS MPX? Are you overclocking?

I have not had any issues using the Audigy or TB Santa Cruz with either the Tyan Tiger MP or Asus A7M266-D boards to date in a variety of games. I would give the nod to the Santa Cruz overall at this time. However, the on-board C-Media used on the Asus will satisfy about 95% of most peoples requirements. I have found using it with the 6.32 driver set works very well to date and will probably pull my Santa Cruz since this machine will mainly be used for work.

alldressedup: thanks for the tip, I tried to search for drivers at amdmb and 2cpu and came up empty handed tho, oh well. the onboard audio is working well.

IsOs: XP 1600's, no overclock

Bingo 13: you've got the a7m266-D? would you mind pm'ing me sometime? I've had mixed feelings about it so far, mainly due to abrupt system power downs during gaming when I have my new gf3 ti200 installed. Would be nice to hear what hardware others are pairing with it and how different combinations are performing..

Suo - where did you get the info about the Epox board?

I'm trying to be a good boy & wait for the Gigabyte or MSI boards, but I'm starting to get desperate. Do you know if this board has the 4 holes to fit heatsinks like the Alpha 8045?

Anyone else have any idea when other boards are scheduled to arrive?

I've been reading a lot lately over on the forums at 2cpu.com. The Inquirer.net broke the news that the Epox mobo has surmounted the USB problem. It seems that everyone else is just opting for the add-on USB 2.0 card. It's a shame no one really tried to integrate a USB 2.0 controller on board.

What is also interesting is that Epox tends to undercut Asus and other manufacturers in price.

I'm still waiting. Got the parts flowing in, and I'm gonna need that Mobo pretty soon. But I want to see some HEAD-2-HEADs first.

As for the SoundBlaster problems, I remember reading that you had to be careful about what PCI slot you stuck it into. Seems you need to know what PCI slots are not IRQ shared by the Mobo. No certain on this for the Dually setups.

on my old bp6 i had lots of trouble installing an sblive. as far as i know, creative does not support dual cpu configurations for any of their soundcards. if you install the card and use the basic legacy drivers found in w2k the card will work. however, this only gives basic functionality. the more advanced features such as 3d sound will not work. if you are happy with this you should leave it alone, do not install the fancy creative drivers with all of the bells and whistles as this will cause major instability. creative is aware of the problem and as far as i know is not planning on addressing it. if anyone knows otherwise, please post.

before you despair, there is a way to get the card to work under dual configuration. i don't have the link with me but if you go to the microsoft w2k website and do a search for 'cpu affinity' you should be able to find a file and instructions that allows you to assign all of the soundcard processes to one cpu. this allows the soundcard to function as if it were on a single cpu mb. it works pretty well actually and is not difficult to set up. there is still some flakiness with various features on the card but i'm not sure how much is related to bad drivers as opposed to dual cpu issues. basically, i hate the sblive card, i think it's been really oversold. if anyone can recommend a card of comparable quality that has full stable functionality in this configuration please let me know. please don't mention any turtle beach products, that's a whole 'nother can of worms...

as far as i know, irqs and pci slots have nothing to do with the instability.

sochow!

I've got a SBLive (not 5.1) with my P2B-D since 1 year now, and no problem with it so far, although I don't run any version of Windows (I use RH 7.1). So it might be a problem with the Creative driver.
I never played with the IRQs assignement in the BIOS for PCI slots.
I look forward to carry it to my dual Athlon box without any problem.
