I downloaded this over the weekend and tried it out. played for maybe an hour then uninstalled it. i really can't stand tower defense type games. i just get extremely bored with them very quickly.

zebano beat me to it... this has absolutely NOTHING To do with tower defense.

Although MOBA is a completely meaningless term that could very well describe every game which they just invented... but then, so could RPG and to a lesser degree RTS.

But anyways, MOBA is where you control a single unit, a "hero" from a top down perspective (like an RTS). Your hero gains power (XP & Money) by killing other heroes and mooks, like in RPGs. Then finally you lead your own side's mooks to destroying the enemy's base (like a modern RTS).
The enemy might have towers... but towers also exist in RPGs, MMORPGs, FPS, RTS, TBS, and frankly, every game type in existence.

A tower defense on the other hand, is a game where you control NO units at all. instead, all units are enemy units, they advance in a preset path towards a point you must defend. You defend it by buying towers (which you do NOT control directly) which shoot down the enemies to defend that spot. To be good at it you must place the most cost efficient towers at the best locations.

Thanks all who played with me yesterday. Other than a Nasus who kept DCing, in 3 games I suffered no feeders. As an aside, the remake of the AP items (Deathcap!!) has really made AP heroes a lot more viable again. I simply owned a Pantheon mid as Ryze yesterday and mostly carried since even when the focused me my R + E combo left 2 or 3 champs low enough for my team to easily cleanup.


I think DPS Udyr is unmanageable if you don't have a couple of stuns on your team. I watched Shaco + Morg + Sivir gank our Caitlyn and a few seconds latter Udyr roars and takes them all 1v3. LOL.

yeah I noticed that at least a week ago. Your team only has four slots and it shows you in one of them now. I don't think this keep the person not being shown from entering chat though.

On a side note, I wish they would let me save and replay games and also keep the full game stats viewable in my game history.

Yeah I've seen the interface problem, I've also started being dropped from chat (which was very common 2+ months ago but I thought they fixed it). Very annoying. Thankfully people were on skype last night for a pretty good game.

Yeah, that was a great last game we played. Everyone was communicative of both MIAs and setting up ganks, we kept wards up in the key spots for most of the game, and we initiated teamfights when they were out of position and focused down the right champs first.

A guy in the first game Fenix and I played asked if I was building Amumu as a mage. I didn't know that many people did that. I think I've maybe encountered that once. Makes me want to try it just for shits and giggles. Would be funny to be running amok with a crying Amumu that's dealing 6% of an enemy's total HP per second.

I'm not a big fan of building AP on Amumu mainly because as far as tanks go he is way down on the durability scale. He is simply to easy to burst into oblivion if you don't have Armor/MR. That said I remember hearing some weird things about how Despair didn't scale linearly with AP so make sure you do your research on that (I only tested AP mummy out once and it was good because everyone had CC). If you want AP Dmg I'd still rather play a normal mage.


Does anyone know how TF is being built nowadays? I'm used to seeing AP/lichbane builds but I know at one point AD was viable too. I'd really like to start running TF w/ teleport and see how well I can push down towers before flipping to other lanes.

Despair scales an additional 1% per 100AP but you don't get that 1% until you get the 100AP. So from 0-99AP you get no additional bonus damage on Despair. Works the same with Kog's W. It's a lot easier now though to build AP items with defensive stats. I would think a mage Amumu build would have to include an Hourglass, which gives 50AR in addition to the nice invulnerability active, plus Abyssal Scepter for the AP, MR, and MR reduction aura.

For TF, I'd think you'd want to concentrate on ASPD (to proc his passive as often as possible) and AP. Lichbane, Malady, Nashor's. I haven't seen an AD TF in awhile. People were building that I think only because they had nerfed his AP ratios into obscurity but that was fixed. If you want to go AD, you'd probably want to build like any ranged carry. Cleaver, Stark's, Bloodthirster.

TF i do lich rager blade and nashors. if you port in for gank by the time you land you would already have a few rageblade stacks because of your pick a card and gate. IMO pure AP TF is a bit weak in the end game when things are even because he lacks good burst damage and you can't pick gold card reliably too quickly. Because of that you might want to try a hybrid that can BD well or one with bloodrazor to act as a pseudo DPS.

i prefer AD TF personally. AP has great harass-ability early game, but i feel like it lacks late-game. i generally like to go boots, zeal, divine sword, then some AD items (depends on whether i need armor pen or not), then phantom dancer to finish it off. generally i try to include life steal either by bloodthirster or stark's.

i've never done lich/rageblade/nashors. sounds like a pretty solid combo - AP, AD, aspd, CDR. might want to throw a malady in for more aspd and a stacking MR debuff.

I usually get hooked on a character and end up playing him the majority of the time. What usually gets me to change is that I'll get stuck in a losing game streak, or just have a really horrible game.

Basically since I started playing the game I've gone Taric->Sion->Olaf->Karthus. While I still switch back and forth between Olaf and Karthus, I find Taric almost unplayable now(at least for me) and the last time I played Sion I did ok, but I don't think I used him to his full potential.

The main thing thats keeping me from switching to other characters now is that I don't have all the runes I need for other characters to be effective. That and Karthus is just to much damn fun, hell I went 20-2-8 in a game yesterday and also won all 3 games I played. I just wish I had an extra 10k+ IP to buy some other runes that I want.

I added some of ya'll to my friends list yesterday, so if ya'll see a friend invite from Ashakar, thats me. If you didn't get one, don't feel bad, just send me one. I would like to start grouping with people instead of solo queueing all the time and having my fate halfway decided by chance. I usually play normal games, but I'de be willing to play ranked games. As far as voice chat goes I prefer skype since its the easiest thing to use and supports enough people on a conference call for LoL.

The characters that I currently play and am good with are (in preffered order):
Karthus
Olaf (jungle)
Chogath
Nunu (jungle)

I have about 450 games played and I think after yesterday +32wins (W-L), not at home right now, so thats based off memory. As long as I have more wins than losses I think I'm doing good, especially since a large majority of my games are solo queues.

Zeb - It sucked that the other team had a leaver in the game we played yesterday. If thier rammus would have connected to the game they might have stood a chance, especially since I would have had to be alot more cautious in mid to keep from getting ganked. You did get a little screwed laning with Heimer, and having to fight against kennen (so glad he wasn't mid). Kennen and Leblanc are two of the hardest champs to lane against as Karthus (assuming they are any good).

on an unrelated note I've been getting disconnected from chat alot in the last few days, anyone else experiencing these issues?

Our game was disappointing, I started playing too aggressively once I saw they were down a man. Our Heimer was a genuinely good player though, he landed about 75% of his stuns when we laned against ken/panth. That made harassing trivial.

on of our players was having a bad game, so their team took an early (and large) lead. we were ready to surrender at 24. amazingly though, they couldn't push. at all. down 6 turrets to 0, we defended our inhibitor turrets and started winning teamfights. then we won more teamfights. then we ganked at baron. stopped a couple of backdoors.

and then we were so built up that we just walked right in and won the game. we used our slow/stun CC far more effectively than they did.

and as an added bonus, i have kassadin skinned to be darth vader (props to leaguecraft). inspired by this, i edited the sound pack to include vader voices.

i tried using fraps to record a movie, but windows movie maker can't handle the resulting files. fraps files are like 300mb

Haha thats awesome. I use WeGame for my game vids, it should work fine, use the half size or web recording (personally I use half size). Then just upload straight to youtube. If uploading a full match, definitely use web recording quality. You'll probably run into the same editing problem again, because outside of the web recording setting the files are huge from WG too. I would just turn recording on/off to get your snippets and piece them together in WMM.
edit- Also if someone tries WG, don't forget to enable your 'stereo mix' recording device or it won't get the sound. WeGame is free.

Went for the 39.8% CDR that Frozen Heart allows (sometimes I don't finish it if there's mostly magic dmg), and managing all his spells when on such short cooldowns is kinda work.

will probably replace the roa with another archangel staff. when i do zil i usually just do straight AP.
