And the recommended items don't cover the heroes that have multiple viable builds. For instance, Teemo's recommended build is for physical DPS (and is far from how I build him) but he also can be built for AP.

I bought Zilean but he's a tough hero to play. Anyone here play him effectively and can offer tips?

I can not play Zilean, and I don't see him often in higher tier play. Most seem to start with a Meki pendant + health potion (or mana manip) and can effectively harass early game with time bomb.

Cooldown reduction seems to be popular, but aside from that, I can't say that I see the same items from player to player except the Sorcerer Shoes. Also can't say that I've seen Zilean built without AP either.

I've been playing Ryze since he's in the free rotation this week. He's a fun character to play but a total glass cannon. Unless there's a physical carry on my team as well, I'm almost always the first target during a team fight and Ryze doesn't exactly stand up well to 2-3 people focusing on him.

I usually build:
Catalyst
Boots (Merc's if facing a lot of magic/CC, otherwise Sorc's)
Catalyst -> Rod of Ages
Archangel's Staff
Zhonya's Ring
If the game isn't over by that point, start building toward's a Banshee's Veil/Guardian Angel

Of course, in the aforementioned times where I find myself becoming the first target in a team fight, I'll bump up the BV/GA a spot or two in the buy order. Anyone have any other suggested builds I could try?

I just got invited to play HoN a couple days ago, I've been playing that.. I will probably pick up LoL in a couple days/weeks to play too. IMO these games are better than DotA ever was (I didn't really like it in it's Wc3 setting, however I enjoy HoN)

If you are good and don't suck, or at least don't die, Meijia's soulstealer is a MUST for ALL casters because it is the best investment one can make.

One of the first items a good caster will get is a soulstealer, simply because the *potential* Ability Power (AP) gained vs the cost and speed it takes to obtain the item is uncomparable.

You will see almost all casters with one in higher ELO games, and I'm surprised it hasn't been nurfed yet.

Just installed it, looks surprisingly good.

Learning curve looks slightly high - no idea where to start - time to do some reading.

Good game, but when are they getting out of beta phase? I swear, it gets tiring playing the same two maps over and over again.

It's not in beta and has been "officially launced."

New maps are one of the promises, but I somehow don't see that coming anytime soon :/

Awesome game! Hooked me the moment I started playing (though I did play DotA before).

Matchmaking is a little fuzzy when doing it as arranged teams - my friend and I got consistently paired up with level 30s when we were 11/12/13ish. Just hit level 19 though!

Unfortunately, they've yet to prove to us they can do anything but release new champions/skins in a timely manner. Twisted Treeline has been in "beta" since the game was in beta. I have no clue what is taking so damn long to get it into the normal game map rotation considering I never see changes to the map in the patch notes.

Riot really needs to switch gears and focus less on releasing the DPS champ du jour and start fixing the nagging issues that have persisted over time. Some champions are flat out unplayable right now because they are incredibly underpowered. There are some stupid and game changing bugs. For example, I was stealthed as Teemo and waiting to jump out and gank an Eve with my lane partner. She was using Hate Spike in my vicinity. The moment I de-stealthed, all the HS damage was instantly applied to me and I was left with a sliver of life (down from 100&#37. Luckily, we took her out before she could finish me.

Serious bump for this game I have been hooked.

I never played Dota or any of these types of games before so I am slowly adjusting. It is shockingly addicting!

i think it is easier to learn then dota. They recommend items, give port back to the vendor, and there is only 1 vendor...not 5(including secret shop) on dota.

Won an epic game last night - the other team managed to take down our middle inhibitor and the two nexus turrets after they killed all five of us in a team battle...but somehow we fought back and killed them all in a 5v5 after they had gotten the Baron buff! They were out for ~60-70 seconds each so we pushed, took out their top tower/inhibitor then the nexus!

Epic epic game.

Sounds alot like a game I was in last night was well ( same one? that would be funny ). We were also down 2 people at one point due to disconnects.

But, its a good aspect of this game. Unfortunately people have a tendancy to give up when the other team starts out-leveling and out ganking you. But the answer is simple sometimes you HAVE to turtle a bit, catch up in levels , wait for them to screw up and you can turn the tide really fast.

Yep. I've been in a few matches where I really thought the game was lost early but we pulled out the win in the end. Those were with premade groups with friends on Vent though where we could coordinate. With solo queuing, I've run into far more people that will give up and not even try once they figure the game is lost.

Nah, we didn't have any disconnects...just a massive gap in levels. I think we averaged ~15 and the other team averaged ~23/24.

But yeah, now I almost automatically vote no on surrender votes, usually for fun but so far it's worked out most of the time!
