I'm no old timer, but I've seen OT change. Like others have said, I miss the days when a refresh meant an entirely new page of posts. Plenty of posters have come and gone, for better or worse. But something keeps me here, athough I'm not sure exactly what it is. If this forum were to disappear tomorrow I'd be pretty bummed.



At least I'd still have my dug777 t-shirt. Anyone else still repping ATOT?

I can tell you, Honest (American) Indian, this site's owner has ZERO plans to sell out or pull the plug here.

In fact, I can personally attest that, unlike others --<cough> Thomas Pabst </cough> -- who have taken the money and run, Anand has gone to heroic lengths to keep reinventing the main site to remain relevant to today's tech toy trends.

lil rudeguy was 4 when I started here. He turns 17 in a week. This place has seen me through my worst and my best. I love AT and would hate to see it go.

I do get sad when I think about the past here. So many great people have gone away and I miss them. I am mad at myself for taking them for granted while they were here.

I'd probably start my own forums, attached to a new mobile tech news and reviews site. It would be hard to get traffic, though. But I would love to focus on a niche like inexpensive phones or alternatives to Android and iOS.

I used to run an anime site with forums (small, was averaging around 1,000 unique visitors a day at its peak), so it's definitely a possibility if this site enters its death throes.

I'm already on other hobby boards, some of them much more active and interesting than this one. For tech knowledge and PC questions there have been better resources than this one for many years.

I have hung out on other forums, before that in newsgroups. AT is the best of them all, the most diverse that I've seen. There may be better, but I have no idea what might be. Facebook, Twitter, snapchat, all that other social media, AFAIK they aren't as tech-centric yet diverse as AT. I have higher expectations for AT than other sites especially in other than the Social forums. However, I've come to like the social forums (ATOT, sometimes P&N) especially. If I need technical help, this is the supermarket for it online for me. I have hung out at AVS, but they are narrow. There are some places for programming help that I go to but don't hang out there.

Considering this forum goes down every day (surprised it hasn't happened yet) it is already my "backup" to just reading cracked articles and my webcomics.

They moved to new forums in 1999. There was a forum before then. I think they started in 1998.
