hmmm... I get this warning box when I go into the link saying:

"This page has been rated by a rating system that you do not have installed. For more information about these ratings, connect to http://www.classify.org/safesurf/:"

WHAT'S WRONG?

You at home or work? Sounds like a content filter sniffing out mpeg movies.

LoL that was pretty funny! Wonder how they made it sooo realistic looking on a low budget.

<< Hey smart guy, warn people on dialup (jackasses like me). That's more than 6 megs. No way in hell am I even going to finish that download. >>

*EDIT* Oh wait, you're on DIALUP! That explains it! I'd be grumpy too

Hell yeah, you better stay away from me when I'm on dialup...When @home was down and I had to use an msn account, I was depressed and ready to jump on anyone who looked at me the wrong way...

I got it at 3.86 MBytes/sec

(clicked on it once to open it in IE, then right clicked on it later and "saved target as." Just copied it from cache)

Yeah....OOOOOLLLLLDDDDDD, this movie is. Well, in CG Community terms, anyway. I have often wondered if Anandtech people were in tune with the CG community? Maybe not? I can post stuff here often. There's new independent stuff like this coming out every day.

And, BTW, though it's pretty much been covered by now, no, these were'nt KIDS that made this, and it's no huge triumph over hollywood effects people. The people who made it WERE (and are) hollywood effects people. This movie did not get them a job. They already had them. This was a spare time project (not that we animators have a lot of that) It is, nonetheless, cool that they made it with their own computers and their own consumer equipment, and all off-the-shelf software. Anyway, that one link was OK, I guess in terms of the making of and all, but it's best just to go to the official 405 website if you want all the goods.

By the way, it's VERY LIKELY that these guys are among us here at AT. If you check their FAQ, you'll see that one of the computers they used was a dual celeron (presumeably on a BP6?) with both CPU's overclocked to 450. Hmmmm.... Sure sound like Anandtechers to me.

Also, if anyone is just too lazy to read all the "making of" stuff, you should be aware that this is DEFINITELY NOT a "the airport let them film up close" case. The plane is 100% CG in all shots. As is the highway. And the JEEP. --Oh, and pretty much everything else. Obviously, the actors are real. But none of the elements in the action scenes are real.

Really makes it all the more amazing, no? In this day and age, it's getting pretty easy to do this stuff for just about anyone with the time and skill. COmputers and software is not at all a limiting factor anymore.

Someone converted 405 to .mpg but they chopped off the end credits. I actually saw this reviewed on Siskel & Ebert almost 2 years ago. You can get the original uncut version from Ifilm dot com as well as other short films.
