Older Enlight 7237

I have one of the older 7237 with the U-shaped cover (no removable side panels). With a stock PIII 450 (not OC) on an Asus P3v4x, I am getting some terrible heat ratings with MBM and in the CMOS. Idle is 45-50 c, and under a load it pushes 70c. Can anyone suggest some mods that I can do to improve on this? My front fan is the 80mm fan that came with the case, and my PS is a 300w AMD certified PS. Any suggestions will be helpful. As I write this it is 52c

i have the same case: i removed the outer case and have house fan i use to cool it on the hot days.

first off , id check if your PSU cooling fan is working , if its ok , simply adding an additional 80mm fan on the rear for exhaust , and drilling out the holes on the front bezel should help a ton.

Thanks for the suggestions, but the PS fan is working and I have enlarged the front bezel holes (butchered the heck out of the bezel in the process, too). One question I do have is for the rear exhaust fan. Where exactly is this fan supposed to go w/o drilling holes? I see it mentioned all the time that people have added a rear fan to this case, but I always wondered where they put it. Does it go on the outside of the case over the power supply fan hole?

I have the same case, It should have a place to put an extra fan in the rear just below the power supply.

Nothing even remotely resembling a spot for a rear fan on this case. It must be a real old version. I took the computer across the room apart (identical 7237, bought at the same time) and again there is no spot for a fan. I may try one of those 2cool plus coolers, because I am not about to start drilling holes in a metal case.

If you can get your hands on a hole saw it's pretty easy, If your stuck with a dremel it gets a little tricky.

I have this case and when it got time to buy a new case, I decided on modding it. It's sweet. I wish I could take pictures to show you guys.

I've got the old case. There is no place for a rear fan, it is only on the new model. The back panel is set up so that modding it would be tough. I just got the SX1030 for my new case, this thing is sweet. It has plenty of cooling, 2 front fans(not included)& 2 rear included(not including the PS).

You might wanna tjeck if the psu fan blows in or out. I had an Enlight 7231 and it had a 120mm fan in the bottom of the psu blowing INTO the case (atx 2.00).

The PS fan definitely blows out - it is an Enlight 300w AMD certified PS. Whatever I decide to do I will have to do soon. I am on my second P3V4x - the first one lasted 1 week. I am not sure if its demise was heat-related, but I don't wan't to take any chances. I saw an antec 1030 in the hot deals forum, and I may check that sucker out.

Power supply should always blow out removing heat from the case and the PS.

SX1030 isn't really a full tower, its more of a cross between a mid and full. It is only 4" taller(with the 3/4" feet on it) than the Enlight 7237. I think the pics make it look taller than it is.

You should be able to pretty easily mod that side panel to come off, instead of the entire cover. Then you could install some cooling fans on that side. I would personally use hinges, so I could very easilly open 'er up!

I think there are several issues to look at here, so lay down the tools and the wallet for a while .

1# What's the &quot;stock&quot; operating temp for a P450. My stock HP P300 if I remember, runs warmer than my P750@915. The P300 hs has no fan. An 80mm fan on back blows baby breaths to it via plastic shroud. The shroud is not even in close proximity of the slot 1 cpu. Even then it will OC to 360 or so as it is.

2# Is the 52C correct? If the heat sink will cook your finger if left there long enough, then most liky it's in the ball park. If you can't tell if it's warmer or colder than your finger, then the hs is around 36-37C. Offcourse the actual chip will be slightly warmer.

3# An 80mm intake fan wallops a lot of air. I'd make sure this air is put into good use by giving it a way out through the back and/or top of the case instead of the vents in the side panel. To help the front fan, maybe three 40x20mmm fans stacked in column will fit in the back near the top.

4# If nothing else,

a) I'd give the 450 a better hs/f if you ain't got it already.

b) This could be controversial. Make a hole on the bottom plate of the case and move your 80mm fan there. Let it blow air upward between your cards and the back of your drives. This will really create mega turbulence inside the case with one fan and flush the air via the side vents, front vents (now empty), etc. Also open a couple of slots in the back if you have them and have not installed any fans in the back. No fan/s and no vacant slot? Drill. This might be quieter too than a front or side fan setup.

Galileo, I am pretty sure that the temp readings are accurate. They are from the CMOS and MBM. I am looking for a better heat sink/fan right now. Also, the 450 does run hotter than its bigger brethren, but 72c under a load is way too high.

In case anyone would like to know, the 2Cool PC Plus dropped my full load temp from 72c to 62c. It is kind of pricey and looks like a POS, but it does work. Now let's see what the GlobalWin VOS 32 will do.
