Most people who start MAME cabinet projects fail. This is a fact. Are you going to allow yourself to be amongst the thousands of failures out there? Only time will tell.

Yeah I've been letting it sit for some years but it's really only 3 or 4 parts away from being 100% operational! I had it running hooked up to a laptop to test!

One of my summer projects is to dig all of the old DOS games out of my basement and get them to run on my XP box via emulators. I will find a way. :evil:

Really your best bet would be to go to a used computer store and pick up an old clunker for 100 bucks or so and install DOS on it. If you would like to play some of the old classic adventure games then SummVM is a GREAT "emulator"

But for others your best bet is to get the original hardware. Unlike consoles there has not been much of a push to emulate older PC hardware to get abandonware games running

i play the original UT still. and D2 is gearing up for 1.13 and a ladder reset, so i'm gonna play that again on ladder reset.

and of course, i still play NES/SNES/PS1 games all day on my laptop

My friends and I LOVED playing UT on a router back in our old summer house, and we tried setting up a game over the Interwebs a few weeks ago. It simply does NOT work. Either someone starts a game and it only shows up a LAN game so no one else can join, or we actually get a game off the ground but then there's horrible lag. Frustrating.

I still play BG2, KOTOR and Deus Ex on a regular basis.
I fire up the emulator once in a while, just did a game of Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy. Got a game of Crystalis running that still needs to be beat. I dont bother with the original Super Mario because Mario All-Stars for the SNES was much better.
I guess the oldest would have to be Dragon Warrior.

I still play Sim city 2000. and I love it! If i knew where my Oregon Trail Floppy Disks are stored, I would install that and play it again. I remember getting Oregan trail on a windows 3.11 box. And i think my sim city 2000 might have been windows 3.11 as well. cain't remember now, its been so long.


Edit: I still enjoy hooking up the NES and cranking out some Mario 3, or even Blades of Steel!

I remember playing boulder dash on the commodore 64. I played lode runner on my mums work computer which was one of the original macs. I still have my copy and box (in those days boxes came out in an A4 size and featured some great art on the cover) of Star Wars rebel assault.


I downloaded lode runner on xbox360 and its just not the same. I agree with an earlier post, who suggested that it would be great if they re released some of the old games. I loved playing where in the world is carmen sandiago.

I still mess around with XCom. I have an old laptop and I have left the PC Gamer disk with the 10+ full version classic games in the drive for as long as I can remember (I wish PC Gamer would put out another disk like that).

It also has Civ2 and Alpha centauri installed.

That PC Gamer disk has Ultima Underworld on it; I'll have to try that one some day.
