I got one from beach camera for my church a few weeks ago for 679 shipped... seems ok. Unfortunately speakers are not detachable. I ordered one of these last evening with my work's CC card to do whatever with whenever cuz at that price I am sure I will find somehting to do with it . Ps- we have a tax cert on file so didnt have to pay tax in GA which helped save $37 .

NOT the same size set! The scpetre is 42"!!!

Plus, the sceptre was onsale at costco.com for $1200 w/ free shipping. Now it appears to be out of stock. So newegg is $1300 for it.

Plus, the olevia 37" has no tuner, the sceptre would come with a tuner.

to be informative and keep people from buying mistakes. spend $600 on crap. The sceptre 42" NAGA set is far superior and good reviews on avsforums.com - people who know their HT stuff!!!!

olevia not 1080p, no tuner, 5inches smaller, you do the match and I'd rather pay extra for alot better TV.

$600 is fine if you cannot afford the other $700.

If you can afford 1300 more on a TV you will not be looking at this model. Why are there any comparison???

That is like people bitching that you should NOT buy a civic when you can get a BMW 3 series... WTH

I'm not sure why this idiot ctcsoft is still posting, but coming into a thread about a $600 TV and then declaring that a $1200 TV would be better...NO WAI!?!? REELY!?!

For $600, this 37" Olevia offers a great value (and that is what the Hot Deals forum is all about).

Got one for my parents as a bedroom TV; added a cheap $25 wall mount from Monoprice. SDTV looks good enough; on par with most Sharp units I've seen. HDTV and DVDs look great. They have Comcast and an HD-DVR. Out of the box, it needs calibration (use the basic THX calibration found on many DVDs, or better yet DVD Essentials/Avia).

ctcsoft, I can show you a $2400 TV that will light your $1200 TV on fire. Hey, it's only twice the price, right?

Its like going into the BMW showroom looking for a 3 series and the salesman comes up to you and is like "for a little more money I can get you into this 7 series"

How many dead pixels are acceptable for a tv this size? Mine has 2 dead pixels, is that normal? Thanks.

Is it worth it to wait for something that can support 1080p for around the same price? I don't have HDTV programming. I run all television viewing through a HTPC that connects to my TV through s-video cable.

We'd be looking at this for a bedroom TV to mount on the wall... the no tuner thing makes that kinda a pain. Are there any external tuners that are small/lightweight (like the opposite of a RF modulator)?

The manual has specs on what they require before it's considered defective. It's something like more than 7 bad pixels, or a couple places where there are multiple adjacent bad pixels. So by their standards, it's acceptable, yeah.

I have a 332H with one stuck pixel. It's almost always impossible to see from a normal viewing distance, though.

Probably not, because in most situations it will be difficult to notice a difference between 720p and 1080p. However, if you're going to use it more as a PC monitor (viewing text, etc.) as well as viewing video, then you might care. Whatever you do, you should use either VGA or DVI->HDMI with your HTPC instead of S-Video if you get a TV like this. It would cost almost nothing to switch cables and the quality would be much better than S-Video.

Also, I have the 332H and it exhibits some tearing when using the VGA input, so that's something to consider as well.

You can buy an external tuner, but it will probably be $150-200, which means it's usually a better deal to just get a different TV with a built-in tuner. As far as small/lightweight, they'd usually be the same size as any other piece of A/V equipment (like a DVR, etc.)

What do you mean by tearing?

I went to Fry's today to see this TV. It was around other 37" LCDs of different brands, and they all looked many times better. Even the Hannspree or whatever it's called. I was very underwhelmed and will continue to wait. The colors and contrast looked very flat.

I did pick up the PQI 1 GB SD card for $1.99 for my Wii, and Bomberman for $9.99 for my DS though.

This is a HOT deal. ctcsoft, please stop trolling the thread with OT posts. The thread is about the 37" TV, not a 42" with a built in tuner for 600 more. If you find the Sceptre model for a great price, please post that link, but in a different thread.

I happen to own this LCD and picked it up on black Friday. It has a great picture and the lack of a tuner is highly manageable seeing we wanted the Comcast DVR anyhow. We also have the 42" from the same sale, and the tuner, while nice, is not a deal breaker as we still use a comcast DVR box. My only complaint is the lack of a backlit remote.

I agree, it's a great deal and I certainly would buy one. Honestly how many of us use TV for watching TV? It's probably 4 hours in a month for me.

Certainly a good deal for an economy-line 37-incher. I'm still loving my 40" Sony LCD that I picked up for $500 (link) but that's an impossible deal to duplicate, so this is a good deal.

Did you play with the settings? I saw the 32" at CompUSA. Initially I felt the same way, but after some quick adjustments it was dead on with higher end stuff.

We currently have a 32" standard tv that we use as our main TV. And we been thinking about getting a new HD TV.. I was wondering if by going with this 37" will there be a big differnce in size over the 32" one that we currently have? Or do you think this is a bit small for a main TV? We have comcast cable and a DVR from them, so we would be able to use the HD programming that we currently have, so it not having a tunner isn't big deal.

Thanks for any info..

A 37" widescreen will actually have a smaller picture while watching standard TV. I had to go all the way up to a 50" to make the upgrade worthwhile from my 32" Sharp TV.

It depends on your room size and how far away you sit, but I originally bought a 32" and found it too small, and replaced it with this TV and found it much more to my liking.

Do you watch standard definition TV or HD? If you watch SDTV how is the quality of the image? I am just wondering how it would look compared to my none HDTV now.

My Olevia 32" displays SDTV very well. Some channels that look like low production quality or have a poor signal will look crappy- naturally. So if you watch alot of local programing look for something else.

I got this from Fry's a while back and shipping to NC was only $18 it was shipped by DHL from Ohio....
If you don't need a tuner on your set, ie cable, sat box or HTPC with HD card, then it is a great TV. The viewing angle is not the greatest...meaning if you are not eye level with it straight on it looks darker or lighter than it should but that is to be expected with most lcds unless you get a great Samsung or the like....There are lots of calibrations you can do with the set, so it is very easy to tweek the color....Overall I am very happy...Gears of war looks downright awesome and dvds and HDTV over look great as well. I wish I had waited since I could get it now cheaper but that's the way things go in the tech world
