Why? The pay is based on supply and demand, and accounts for the additional time off (fewer hours worked) and generous benefits. Why should there be some arbitrary rate set for one group of workers versus another?

Agreed.

There's a surplus of English teachers like this woman so why the hell should they be paid more? It's one of the easiest professions on the planet, and their "Master's" is a joke (put together lesson plans for their final project = lmao).

Maybe more rare, technical teachers like programmers or math/sciences at high school AP levels but only after they prove themselves.

Teaching isn't a tough profession (although I'll give you that getting kids to effectively respond can be). Also consider that they're getting 2.5 months off during the summer and it balances out while we're busting our asses year round.

My wife is in her 6th year of teaching and only makes $36k/year.

Makes me feel better about my wife making $38k in her 6th year

If your argument is just that 'its understandable' based on precedent I can agree. However I think your analogy is wrong given that there is a difference between taking a picture of a raging boner and taking a picture wearing a bikini nor do I think it should be enough to dismiss the teacher. I find it an odd place to draw the line. What about taking a picture of a teacher if she is wearing tights while running? That could be distracting because Mrs X has a nice ass and it looked good in her running clothes. IMO The line should be in excess of standard beach wear. A raging boner is not standard beachwear - a bikini is

but as long as they have enough qualified candidates to fill the positions, why should they start paying more?

I would argue that - at least in my area - many schools can't find qualified teachers because they don't have the budget to hire them (school funding being cut). Salaries go down -> teachers leave -> Scores go down -> less funding -> lower teacher salary -> more qualified teachers leave -> lower scores -> less funding -> .....

I know I feel better about my wife making only 30k a year to teach here in Colorado. She made more in the poor little state of New Mexico than here.

You could argue that, but as far as I'm aware, total budgets spent on schooling continues to go up. Per capita spending on schools doesn't go down, it continually goes up. The problem is that a lot of money gets sucked up into overhead and other stuff instead of going to the teachers.

Either way, that's still a normal supply and demand process. If they can't find people, they'll have to raise pay until they can.

Teacher's have "moral contracts". They aren't supposed to publicly display their personal preferences in politics, religions, and certain beliefs. They also have to maintain a neutral status in their personal sphere so that it does not intervene or influence day to day teaching.

If personal issues become a distraction in the classroom, or school as a whole, and detract from the teacher or schools ability to conduct regular education, a teacher can be fired.

Example: I post pictures of myself online, not of my penis, but of a big throbbing erection in tight underwear with the thumbs up sign. I call it art and it is appreciated in my circle of friends. It's a free country, I can do whatever the fuck I want to. It's not porn. Cocks.

Result: I and other teachers can't go a day without cock teacher becoming a hot topic. It's in the lunch room, homeroom, people are drawing cocks in shop, it's everywhere. The school then fires me trying to get rid of the "distraction".

Several months later, people forget about Cock Art.

-------------------

It's really vague in the contract language, but it's there in some form. Alot of teacher unions will sue though, but the school may still fire someone even if it's not justifiable, just to get rid of them. They will calculate the legal costs into the decision.

So it's not understandable then. The logic is flawed.

The entire reasoning you gave for this situation being understandable is premised on the ignorant, immature, holier-than-thou acts and attitudes of third parties, which are wholly irrelevant.

Sorry, but I think that is bull shit. Teachers need to be paid more.

Teaching seems to be the profession that is a last ditch effort to make a career. I have met an incredible amount of people who major in "elementary education". All of my WHY. Some of these people need not be teachers.

What teachers get paid is highly regional and also depends on if it is podunk town or larger town/city.

There are school districts in Texas that start teachers out at $47-50k(47k for BA, 50k for MA), and they aren't particularly difficult to get hired on at because the school districts are growing at a fairly fast rate. It seems podunk school districts start out at around $40k.

I've done this math. There are areas of Texas where Assistant District Attorneys get paid roughly the same annual salary as teachers, which means those teachers have a higher hourly rate. That is 4 years vs 7 years of education. Starting out Assistant Attorney Generals in Texas get paid less than teachers starting out in most major school districts. And that is annual vs annual and not taking into account the extra 45 days off teachers have.

Then again, Texas is producing way more law grads than legal jobs. I know ADAs that work 50+ hrs(sometimes 60+) a week for ~$43k/year. Its highly stressful and depressing too because its fucking CPS shit.

She was a teacher, not a porn star. She violated a contractual obligation and got fired. The pop-social outrage over moral relativism and puritanical standards (I actually agree here) is just a sideshow to the fact she took a risk and got caught.

She even admitted to thinking about the risk.

So, my wife works at a school. A lot of her kids live in the same neighborhood as us. Two weekends ago we were at the community pool and she saw some of her kids. She was in a bikini. Should she be fired?

Ahhh, she's a "booth babe" basically. I can see why she got fired, sucks, but it's understandable.

You can? So, if she wore that bathing suit to the beach and someone took a photo of her, would that be grounds for termination?

i had teachers who flagrantly proselitized their religious mumbo jumbo all the time in high school... even in biology class.

if posting a bikini shot gets a teacher fired, being seen going to church on sunday should get a teacher fired, being seen at the shooting range should get a teacher fired, eating unhealthy amounts of mcdonalds should get a teacher fired.

I had a teacher at school back in the day. Open shirt all the time, tits swinging around like a ride at Cedar Point.....

I never did like him.

I don't know if this is true anywhere else but here on LI the teachers with tenure make near 6 figures. A friend @ 35yo for example is at 95k. Middle school teacher. 2 months off for summer. The requirement is a masters (not as hard as it sounds) and you're good. School superintendents make over $250k (and then there's this gem). On a LI board we bitch & moan about it ($9k/yr just in school taxes) but what can we do about these UNIONS??? Same goes for cops. Many over 6 figures. I'd like to know if this is true anywhere else. Meanwhile if we don't pass the school budget every year our kids get programs cut from them. Fuggin unions. How did we let it get so out of hand?

AFAIK, the superintendent is not part of the union. I don't know why we paid her so much god-damn money. But the people of Syosset keep electing the same groups to the school boards.... it must have something to do with the runaway costs.

Sounds like she has a pretty good wrongful termination suit against the school/district/city/state. There was no good reason to fire her over some modeling shots.

The larger the school district the higher a super intendent gets paid.

In podunk Texas school districts Superintendents can get paid around $120k. In the large school districts $400k is not unheard of. High school principles in large school districts in Texas clear $100k.

But yeah even in NY $500k for a superintendent of a tiny but very rich school district is asinine. But capping all superintendent pay at $175k is asinine as well.

Its not even close to the same. One is a commercial for profit endeavor, the other one is hanging with the fam. Also, in one of her pics, the is wearing a see through top that tapers off BARELY covering her vagina. Hopefully, your wife didn't wear something similar at the community pool.
