Ok, I've got my g/f's digi cam sitting here (I used it to take some pics) and I want to upload the images to my PC. I installed their software and everything, but every time I connect the camera via USB, it says that the the device is not recognized.

Olympus' website isn't much help since they have no trouble shooting options, nor do they list a USB driver, apparently Windows shouldn't need one, or so says Olympus.

Now I'm stuck I have no clue what to do and so far I haven't been able to find anything useful.

Thanks in advance guys and gals,

Patrick

Tried both, still nothing.

Even tried using a USB port that I use to connect to my i830 (meaning, I know that port works), and yet still nothing.

I guess I could try that...you know what now that you mention that...

I wasn't able to install the 2.0 USB drivers because it was only compatible w/ SP2 for XP...hmmm lemme do that real quick and I'll let you know.

Well apparently Windows didnt like me updating my Mobo drivers because i'm still waiting for it to boot. I'm at the Windows screen and am waiting for the bar to finish going across, it looks like the new drivers did something there and now I have to try and figure that junk out...arghhh. All this just to use a stinkin camera, why can't it just be plug it in and have windows automatically see it as a removable drive, but no it has to be difficult as usual.

It was in the Title....BUTTTTTT

Windows XP.

The manual for connecting it to an ME/2000/XP based computer says that Windows will recognize it and install the necessary software for it...yet I keep getting a messege saying it's not recognized.

This sucks too since I bought this camera for my g/f I hope it atleast works on her compaq, or else I'll be PISSED.

Stop screwing around trying to connect the camera to your computer. Spend $20 and get a media reader - put it in your USB port, then slip in the media from GF's camera - end of problem and you don't need to clutter up your computer with extraneous software.

I do...I don't even remember mentioning SP2??? w/e

And I'm not going to spend the 20 bucks for a Card reader that I'll use once in a blue moon, guess I'll just have to hope that it works on my g/f's lappy...and if not it's probably something funked up with the camera then.

Ahhh, sorry...that was when I just installed Windows (prior to updating) and the mobo drivers for USB connections were only supported under sp2.

Yesterday, I hooked up a new Olympus C5500 to my laptop running XP SP2. Try the following:
1. Turn camera off
2. Hook up camera to computer's USB port. Camera should turn on, with PC menu item highlighted.
3. Press OK button on camera. This should make Windows recognize it as an external drive (may take several seconds).

I'll try that when I get home.

When I plug the camera into a USB port, there is a green light near the lense that does light up, but it still isn't working at all.

with the olympus cameras (at least with mine) you have to select "PC" in the cameras menu after plugging it in with the camera in |> (play) mode -
XP should add the camera's memory card like it is an external hard drive.

After looking at the camera another time, there is no option to select 'PC' in the menu like you said. I plugged it in while viewing the pictures and I still get the same thing...the device is not recognized by Windows...this is annoying the ever living crap out of me I'm on my g/f's laptop right now, hoping it would work here, but thats not the case. Could there possibly be something wrong with the camera that isn't allowing Windows to access the memory card?

Thanks.

Well...owning another camera doesn't really do me any good since I'm trying to get the one I currently own to work.

But thank you though.
