Hi all,

I bought the recent Kyphermedia cdrw ONLINE "Free after rebates" deal. I indeed saved to HD and/or printed applicable info.

The address for rebates were the same so I sent both with original UPC and copy UPC and photocopies of sales receipts.

First rebate for 40 or 45 (i dont recall exact amt) was rejected due to "store non participation" I went to OM with all documentation and manager agreed with me. OM re-entered rebate into system. Rebate became valid.

Rebate # 2 for 25.00 rejected due to "no sales receipt" Per rebeteshq instructions I faxed it to them (cover letter and all with rebate tracking #)

Still rejected due to same reason. I went to OM (second trip) with documentation. They again agreed and said they would correct it.

Still rejected. Today I scanned and sent rebateshq the 3rd incident of sales receipt, along with a letter informing them I have no problem sharing my experience with the state attorney generals where I live and where they do business.

I have 2 theories as to why it is such a hassle

#1) Seems like they are instructed to reject valid rebates hoping the people will not follow up or complain.

#2) People working there are morons and have trouble getting simple things right.

I suspect #1 is more in line with their internal agenda.

Thanks for sharing. Please post this kind of information in our ~~~~ Brag & Moan ~~~~ Thread.

There's an old saying: "Never assume malice when incompetence is an adequate explanation."

Very similar experience with OM recently. I will not shop there anymore-I hope they enjoy the $10 (so far, still waiting on other rebates) that they ripped me off for.

I think #1 is the reason.

Think about peoples in creditcard company. They deal with millions of payment checks coming in mail everyday, and they yet to screw me up once.

I definitely have sent much less rebates than credit card bills, still lots of rebates went wrong.

The reason is that credit card companies don't make profit on "losing" your mail. If they lose your mail frequently, I guess you will just go with another credit card

I know what you mean but it is not malice, just "business" and some would say "clever", though not the purchaser.

Sorry, I assumed as it said rebate tracking. Is there a "rebate tracking with comments allowed" thread?

Reviving the old Khypermedia thread would probably have been the best course. I've been reading the forums here for four years, and I've looked at off-topic maybe twice. I suspect that most people are like me and ignore off-topic.

The dual rebate forms, each apparently requiring original UPC codes, are getting ridiculous. If I remember correctly, these OfficeMax ones were even sent to the same address. The seven-day time limit is also ridiculous. This is all meant to set up hoops and barriers to jump through and over. I'll bet they have a target rebate figure of maybe 20% fulfillment, and if the actual number is too high, they begin "losing" forms.

This is the "hot deals" forum but not the "rebate tracking" thread. You are still in the wrong place with or without comments.

I agree.. Since the whole Kyphermedia rebate was discussed here 'and' this is a 'somewhat' related topic I would probably done the same .. my $0.02

GUys i guess theory #1 is correct as i had the same problem with compusa rebates, i got a email saying the zipcode is invalid, i ched my photocopies and it was so clear

i guess they are instructed to reject.
