I just opened a 2mb cache model of this drive that I had purchased a few days ago. When I checked out, the cashier told me that there was a rebate starting on Sunday and that I could just bring my receipt back in to get a repurchase/refund transaction so that I would have a receipt for the right date.

Anyway, I just opened the box and found a note inside telling me that I had just gotten a free upgrade: a 8mb cache drive in the 2mb cache box! Office max had the 8mb version boxes, but were selling them for $20 more. So buying to 2mb box may (should?) actually get you the 8mb cache version. (I think it is still the 1 year warranty though.)

Now I just need to find that coupon code and take my receipts back in. I swear I did a search a few days ago and turned up all kinds of $30 off $150 deals. They were all the online type of code though. So I didn't do anything with them at the time. But now I can't find them; there is a $50 of $250 code. And someone Diggler has the PDF of a $30 of $150 code posted. I am not sure if they are going to accept that though. I will try it. I also thought that I could do an order online and then show the store the checkout page with the code, but I couldn't get the drive to show up on their website!! At least, not in my cart. I could find it only if I typed in the item number, but then it wouldn't add to my cart. And clicking the link to the general product page (instead of the search results page) gave me an error. So no dice there.

Here on the west coast, ordered online around 2A.M., showed up as backordered. Received e-mail confirmation of delivery on the 29th though. Went to B&M this morning, @11:10. "Got the last one" CSR said. Had to have Mgr. approve extra $30 online discount. Only got the approval cause: 1)they were swamped, and 2) I had print out showing confirmed backorder of HD. Just got Lucky. Thanks to all. A great deal. :sun:

The cashier called the manager over to ask for a override on the price of the 8MB SE drive to make it $149.99. I wasn't comfortable about the substitution of a 8MB cache SE drive for a 2MB cache model. The cashier asked the manager if he needed the "Weekly Ad Planner for April 27, 2003" for the instructions on "Procedure to Provide the Substitute and/or Rebate" sheet.

I asked if I could pay for a copy of the "Weekly Ad planner" - to make sure I could get the substitute of the 8 MB SE drive for the 2MB one - she was very nice (as all of the employees at this one OfficeMax are - I should write OM corporate on how good their customer service is at this location!) and just gave me a copy for free.

I cannot host this scan - but if Diggler or someone wants to give me an email address - I can send it to them.

Thanks for the deal!

I ordered at 2 AM PST and just called now to update the price. My order status does say backordered but it also says it will be delivered the 29th, so who knows. The CSR didn't mention the status either, just that they are having trouble updating the price and that every other call is about the hard drive. If I get it great, if I don't oh well. I already have 180 GBs, so this will probably be for my parents computer since they need a new one.

Hello, I am new to Anandtech forums, but have been reading the posts for a week...
I walked in to officemax awile ago and asked for the 120gig drive...A VERY nice lady had to go to the back and brought out the 8mb cache special edition and said they are subsituting it, and I'd like it better anyway lol......She also said it'd be no problem with any rebates....AND believe it or not , after I said I wanted to beg her to do something for me, she EASILY said YES to the $30 off $150 online page I had printed out...She told the cashier to do a "no code" grp discount........ .....I also got the cendyne cdrw....I Am VERY happy because I thought I had NO chance to accomplish this....I almost didnt even go because of all the posts I had read.........I DID tell her the harddrive was soldout on the web when I asked for the $30 off $150 reduction......thanks to anandtech forum and thanks to my lucky stars for having a nice person at my local b&m here in Columbia, S.C......
ps. price looks like sale price $149.99 - $30 off 150 - $80 rebate = 39.99 before tax...

Ok, I had already secured my purchase of the 2MB edition WD120gb hard drive earlier last week. I called the store in advance to check if they accept online coupons; they do. When I brought my receipt in today for a repurchase, they said that the $30 off $150 coupon would not be accepted since there was already a sale and a rebate going for the hard drive already. I was told that the coupon will not be accepted under certain special sales. Damnit.....any ideas?

Just went to my OM to pick up the Cendyne drive... didnt have any liteons in stock (had 'em check), but the cashier station had 2 other drives there (from which she grabbed the one for me first, then asked if there were more in back)... anyway, also sitting there were 3 WD 120gb SE.... sooo, i'm guessing if they have em at the cashier station like that, then they are good for the rebate.... sadly, i didnt pick one up ... still have a 80gig sitting around in its box...

I've called 877-officemax a bunch of times for a price adjustment and they keep telling me to call back on Monday because a credit card CSR needs to handle it. Should I just wait until then or am I saying the wrong thing?

I just got one. They have loads of these at the store by me, but they wouldn't take my $30 off $150 coupon But my harddrive said 2mb cache on the box, but it had an 8mb cache in there. Good deal

How did you tell that it was 8MB? I just got mine and it too said 2MB on the box...

It came with a pink slip of paper that said that I recieved an 8mb cache version for the price of a 2mb cache. A "free upgrade". Then I looked at the drive and it was a JB.

Hell yea.. I got one I wonder if it's pure luck or they really do have a ton boxed up and it should be of no surprise.

I tried that number first actually. And I just tried it again now. Apparently my credit card (using a Visa) is locked and they won't be able to change anything until Monday. Strange. =/

Well, I attempted this morning to place an order for the WDC drive online, but got an error message when attempting to add the drive to my shopping cart. I presume this was because it was out of stock. I took the $30 Off of $150 Purchase to my nearest OM and the managers quickly stated the would not honor it or make a good customer service gesture. When I asked for the contact information of their regional manager, I got an 800# and no name or further assistance.

BTW, the WDC 120GB hard drive was out of stock, their system I am told showing it as discontinued, and there replacement/substitution for this product was the 8MB Special Edition drive, which was also out of stock. The customer service rep claim the inability to check other store's inventory and I guess he was telling the truth (he could have lied, but why would he?). So, I left a very disappointed person with not much in the way of feeling good about OM or OM.com.

I think I'll stick with Staples, as I have experience with the local stores price-matching their online stores. I guess not every store cares about customer satisfaction. That's fine. I know where my spending money goes, and it isn't OM.

I ordered using a Mastercard, and my credit card is not locked! But nonetheless OfficeMax locked my order as well. I've had this happen at other retailers before; they randomly lock orders to protect against fraud. We'll find out tomorrow morning I guess.

He lied, they can check other stores inventory. All they have to do is enter the item and store number to show the quantity available. I did this once for another hot deal and they showed another store had the item I wanted. Called the other store to put it on hold. As always YMMV with this CSR/Managers.

1) As many people have already pointed out (both here and at FW), the WD Special Edition drive is indeed an OFFICIAL OFFICEMAX SUBSTITUTION item. Furthermore, several people were given copies of the OfficeMax "Weekly Ad Planner." Well I too was given a copy of one and have scanned & posted it! See the OP, REBATE ISSUES section, "$80 WD HDD" issue, *UDPATE3*.

2) The Cendyne "expired" $10 MIR will be honored! It's listed in the OMAX MIR Quick Reference Chart (which is included in the packet of the OMAX Weekly Ad Planner), which I've also scanned and posted. See the OP, REBATE ISSUES section, "Cendyne CD-RW" issue, *UDPATE2*.

3) Also added to the OP is an additional FASQ Q&A about how OMAX handles orders in which multiple items were ordered, a COUPON was applied, but one (or more) items ends up getting cancelled.

I got the WD 120gb SE 8mb/3yr warranty drive today at my local OMax today. they had 2mb drives as well as the 8mb drives, I asked the manager for the 8mb unit and he said OK, nice guy. manager said he would take competitors coupons, so I used a $20.00 off coupon from Staples.

$49.99 after rebates, no bad for a 120gb SE

Of course, all of the Officemax's in NJ are sold out. I put my name on a list for possible shipment during the week. I'm very skeptical that they will get a new shipment since Officemax.com is sold out as well.:|

O for 2 with HD (CC AND OM)
