ps. price looks like sale price $149.99 - $30 off 150 - $80 rebate = 39.99 before tax...

Got one in Austin. Store clerk told me they had sold out earlier in the day and there were none to be had in town. I was about to leave when he said wait a minute, they might have one left of the substitution item. They wouldn't take my $30 off $150 coupon I got in the mail because it says web/phone orders only, but they did give me a $25 credit for filling out and putting the purchase on an OfficeMax credit card application (it's mentioned at the bottom of this week's flyer). $45 plus taxes is still a heckuva deal, especially for an 8mb cache drive with a 3 year warranty. Thanks Anandtech!

Dang, all of you are getting so lucky. I went to the South Philadelphia location. They would not take Staples coupon. They said it was sold out. They would not offer to substitute the drive. I walked out with the Cendyne drive. Maybe, I'll try a different location.

I ordered the hard drive at around 12:30AM. The order shows that the hard drive is CBO (of course ) and should be in stock in 3 to 4 days. I called around 1 to have my price adjusted. This morning when I check e-mail, I received an e-mail saying that the hard drive is backordered, as expected, I went and check my order status at OfficeMax.com, it shows that both hard drive and filler item will be shipping on April 29th. Can someone tell me which status should I trust then? I never ordered from OfficeMax before, so I am not sure how they handle some of these stuffs. Thanks.

Oops, I should mention that the order status at OfficeMax.com shows shipping date as April 29th, but the drive still shows CBO.

No one else had this same problem with their Visa? I'm thinking it's a security measure or something.
Same thing happened to me when I was trying to make a price adjustment. My CC is a Mastercard, so I don't think it has anything to do with Visa. I think the reason is because I've been spending a lot more than usual, that's why there's a hold. Anyways, I checked my order status and it still says OPN with delivery date 4/29.

hdd still comes up 179.99 on the web site, and currently unavailable... maybe they'll fix it or did miss in store only for an instant rebate?
or it could be like staples black friday madness, massive amounts of free stuff after rebates, was third person in store that morning but they were all out of everything that was free after rebate, I figured the employes all jumped on the good deals and didn't leave anything for their customers.

well, I was able to get my order in last night at about 1am, but it's on backorder based on the confirmation. I'll have to call in for an adjustment of the $179 price to $149. I totally forgot to use AMEX instead so that I could PM later. I figure I could have gotten back another $20+ or so, making the drive only about $20. But just when I was ready to submit the 2nd order, my laptop battery died and I didn't have the power cord with me. $40+ for a 120GB is great, considering I goofed on the CC deal last month and forgot to submit the rebates. I ended up paying $143 for it. Anyone want to buy an extra WD 120GB 2MB drive for $100? No rebate to worry about....

Ahh yes, based on that old saying: "The best things in life are free!"
I'm not sure what the saying is for items that cost you $-10AR though. Congrats on your kick-a$$ score!

Am I missing something? I've seen no reference to a "upc" specific to the OM rebate offer. The only qualifying reference is to the drive being a WD 120gb 7200rpm HD. Thus the issue should be moot as to whether you've acquired a 2mb HD, a 2mb upgrade to 8mb HD, or the SE HD, as long as it is a WD 120gb 7200rpm HD purchased at OM during the rebate period.

The B&M receipt doesn't show the OM SKU, it only prints the item's UPC and "120GB Internal". No specific UPC requirement is specified in the MIR offer.

I was among the first group entering my local B&M this morning and all they handed out were SE drives (had a total of 6 items on hand!) Nothing was mentioned to any customers about them being a substituted item. Cashiers did have to do a keyed register function to deduct the $10 IR.

I seemed to be the only buyer trying to use the online $30 coupon (guy in front of me pulled out a $10 coupon from an OM envelope). Upon inquiry my csr was told they don't honor the OM.com coupons. So after having her set my order aside and suggesting she just clear her register to assist the other customers in line, I asked to speak with a manager.

The manager told me that they were no longer accepting their online coupons although admittedly they had done so in the past. Armed with a Staples in-store $30 off $150 coupon we discussed that his local store had accepted competitor store coupons in the past as well. This was the point where he became more accomodating, although "just this time" they would do so.

I'm not sure if OM registers automatically spit out a rebate receipt like BB and Staples. They handed out their April MIR Directory to customers buying rebate items. The only sure thing about OM B&M's, is that YMMV with coupon offerings that don't specify "in-store". But always try politeness when you want reciprocity.

Thanks to all whose input was informative.

Keep posting!

I picked up a 2mb version from the B&M OM on Sunday - I was on of the first people in the store. They astually had 15 in stock. Grabbed one and went right for the manager to confirm the use of my $30 online coupon. It was a go, and I almost got another $25 off for opening an OM line of credit... I waited to long to get to the register (my misses was looking at address books
) and she reconsidered giving my both discounts. I didn't give her a hassle on it 'cause I'm a nice guy and she was giving me the better discount anyway.

But I'm real happy with this bargin, even happier as my 2MB is an upgraded 8MB

Thanks to TheDiggler, jimmywalt, psianime, anandtech forums and forumers for hooking me up with this sweeeeeet drive!

1st off special thanks to those that brought this deal to my attention, especially TheDiggler. My luck at ordering on the website was nonexistent. I was able to get 3 drives (2 for my RAID setup and one for a friend just so no one thinks I am being greedy) at the Petoskey, Michigan store. They had 6 in stock Sunday morning. That afternoon when I went back to pick up my 3rd they were down to 2 left in stock. They have been known to substitute better merchandise when something is oos so those that are wanting this deal might be able to get the 8MB cache SE version for the same price if the 2MB are gone. Anyway, I was denied the use of the internet coupons, but lucky for me all 3 were the 8MG cache upgrade! Not sure on the warranty since there is a piece of paper in the boxes that says you can buy the 3 year for $19.95. I will check on the WD website to verify what they are when I get time. Anyway, I am happy with the deal that I got and wanted to say thanks.

Got a 120GB SE model at the Capitol Plaza store in Austin TX; was told it was the last one. Manager confirmed it was the substitution, and the lady behind the counter showed me the substituion list, which indicated it qualified for the rebate. The Great Hils store was sold out yesterday, but the manager thought they would get more on Thursday. Never hurts to keep checking; if they do get more in, they might just be the SE models. Wohoo I finally got mine! The manager accepted the $30 online coupon when I told him that the drive was coming-up as back-ordered online. And no need to worry about getting the 2mb version since they are indeed upgraded to the 8mb cache.

How did you get them to aacept, I know it is based on a survey bu is there a coupon code associated with it. Or did you just tell him that is what you tried to do and they ran out?

I printed out the OM page that says $30 off $150 purchace and gave it to the manager. I told him the drive is back ordered online and obviously with the $30 coupon it would be a lot cheaper, he was very cooperative and took the coupon. My brother got in on the deal and he also applied the $30 coupon. I even talked the manager into substituting the drive with the 8mb version (not yet knowing that the 2mb was actually an 8mb version), but it ringed at $179 with a different SKU # and not the one on sale. Anyway, i bought the 2mb version and it's all good!! Diggler's hot deal came through for me and it's good as advertised!

i spend a while to convince them that coupon is doable.

at first they told me they cant use that 30$ coupon, i replied "why not, it didnt say you cant". then guess what, they said "sorry, we cant use that coupon b/c this item is on sale. which is the 10$ instant rebate". i went mad, and i said "what do you mean? are you saying www.officemax.com is not the same company as officemax? if you say they are different, then i will not buy it". then the store manage call some where, few minute later, he drop down the transaction number and some other number, and agreed to the sells.

at first, i did this couple of time before at the same shop, even the clerk knows what to do with the trans. number and all that. that time it was a women manager in charge. this time i think its this 'new' manage dont know what he is doing and dont want us to bother him.

so, for those out there, we have to fight for our freedem plus "FREE stuff", dont hesitate to reason with them! remember "Customer is always right!!" people is USA (east side) should work on there customer service skill~~~! i heard west side are much more better, more customer oriented.

useful sentence:
1. why not, it didnt say you cant
2. what do you mean? are you saying www.officemax.com is not the same company as officemax?
3. if you say they are different, then i will not buy it
