Nope, there's no way to tell. Some have reported that 8C and CM both had 2mb and 8mb buffers. I was unlucky I guess. CM with 2mb, no pink slip. :frown:
That is correct; however, it seems as though far more people who've received the 8MB cache upgrade did so w/ a serial # format of:
WMACMxxxxxxx. Of course as you yourself pointed out, yours wasn't a free upgrade and it matched the
WMACMxxxxxxx S/N format. A few others w/ the
WMA8Cxxxxxxx format have received the free upgrades though.
I happen to have 2 STANDARD EDITION DRIVES sittings in front of me at the moment, one of each S/N format. Since I plan on returning one of the drives, I don't want to open both of them.
I took a gamble, opened the
WMACMxxxxxxx drive NOW (which is actually a
WMACM11xxxxx), and thankfully it had the "free upgrade" PINK SLIP inside.
The other drive with a a
WMA8C3xxxxxx S/N will remain sealed. Anybody got access to an x-ray machine?
