I can only see the C: portion in explorer!

You have to format the drive, before it shows up in explorer. Use partitionmagic or fdisk.

. im gonna try to call tomorrow and talk with the general manager of the store and see whats up with this.

Mark: Look for a copy of a Staples "in-store/phone order/online" coupon for 30off50. They may accept their competitor's b&m coupon in this case.

I went to OM b&m to try to get the hard drive. When they came out from the stock room it was with the 2 mb cache. I asked if they had the 8 mb version & if I could have it for a substutuion. Was told that since they still had 6 of the 2 mb no sub, plus the rebate wouldn't work.

Too bad. They might very well have been models upgraded to 8mb cache (pink slip notice in box). After all, you'd already taken the time and made the drive there and if not, you could have returned it for a refund.

Oh well,

russw,

I was thinking that I might get lucky, but you never know...until after it's opened.

Probably try another OM today.

The Cendyne was delivered yesterday. Disappointingly, the model number was 4816A so I knew it was not a lite-on. Some research on the forums at cdfreaks.com told me that it could be an Asus or a Benq. The Asus got decent reviews but had big problems with writing quality at 48x, a lot of bad sectors, etc. That to me defeats the point of getting a 48x writer. There was a few reports of the v1.12 firware update curing these problems. But I didn't want to risk opening the box and finding out that it was actually a Benq, which is rumored to be a complete POS. Oh well, I guess I'll be returning it.

Question to those of you who are getting your drives:
When did you guys place your online orders? I placed mine 12:10 AM Pacific Time on the 27th (Day of Sale) and it is still CBO as of now.

I placed my order on 4/24 right after scoring the CC drive. Placed my OM web order using a $25 off coupon but listed price was $179. No prob I thought since I'll just PM the day of the sale.

Drive wasn't delivered on 4/25 and I was afraid of an OOS issue so I went to my local B&M and purchased (they had 10 SE boxes). I showed them my web order and they gave it to me for the same price (179- 25+tax) for an SE version.

Called OM on 4/28 to PM my weborder against the sale price (no prob..$32 credit back). The web drive was delivered that afternoon and was a 2mb model with the pink upgrade slip inside to make it 8mb.

Now I've got 3 drives. The CC drive was a regular 2mb model, the OM B&M is a SE version and the OM.com was a 2mb upgraded to 8mb. But I've got to take one drive back since I only have 2 rebates (CC and OM). So I head to the OM B&M to return the CC drive since it's the 2mb version. The OM B&M receipt doesn't match the drive I picked up since they had given me an 8mb. I had to use my OM.com receipt since it's sku was a 2mb model (even though WD upgraded it to 8mb).

However now I've got a refund on the drive that I used my $25 coupon and they won't apply to the 8mb I purchased earlier.

So I'll end up paying 10+tax on one drive and 70+tax on the other.

Maybe you should just return the item without the receipt for store credit. I'm sure you'll buy something else from OM.

Is this deal now dead? I called around to like five different stores in my area (Sioux Falls, SD) and no one has these drives in stock no more. I think I'm SOL cuz I waited too long.:|

Yeah, although the deal is through tomorrow I think you'd have a pretty tough time finding one. Some were saying some shipments might be coming in, but considering they were sold out on-line too I don't think there were any left to send to the stores.

Some also mentioned rain checks, but I was told that the rebate period would not be extended so it is still the drive for $149.99 less an in-store coupon when they arrive. Of course by then they could be running another rebate on the drive. Who knows? Maybe TheDiggler or "The Grand Nagus"?

Good luck.

The definitive word on whether 1200JBs are using 40 or 60GB platters plus performance readings

I sent this email to WD and got this response:
Q: I have heard that the platter size on some newer WD1200JB drives have changed from 40GB to 60GB. Is this true and how can I tell what size platters my drives have.
A: There is no way to tell the platter size. Regardless of what the platter size is, the drive will perform to its listed specs.

Now I don't believe this answer, but that is what their response was. Does anyone have proof that the above link is true? In other words how do we know for sure that these numbers (40 GB/platter: 234375000, 60 GB/platter: 234441648) really represent the different platter sizes? I have heard too many conflicting reports about this so it is hard to tell what is truthful. Don't get me wrong, I hope that this is the real way to tell, but I want to be sure. Any, ideas?

There might be some 120g floating around. Out of curiosity, I spoke to one OM manager and he told me that he can call the warehouse for delivery on Monday. Another manager at a different OM told me that shipment coming in tonight to go on sale tomorrow for the ones who missed out.

But if you really don't need it right now, you should probably just wait until week of May 25, cuz the 120g WD HD may go on sale again, with 2 separate rebates. $30 OM MIR and $50 Mfr MIR. We'll just have to wait if there's gonna be any other discounts on this. If that's the case I'd definitely jump and buy it a week prior to May 25 to secure your HD.

Good luck!

If that's the case then get a raincheck now, and pick one up the week before the sale, then return & rebuy, getting new rebates in the process. I'm pretty sure rainchecks are good for at least 30 days.

I just called my local Office Max in Sioux Falls South Dakota, and they don't have any left. They told me that they even called the company, (corporate officemax) and the company don't have any left, so they won't be getting any shipments in for awhile. I hope some good deal goes on at about the 25th so I can take advantage of that one.

Question for all the people that ordered online and got it delivered. My status still says OPN online and I received the drive on tuesday. I called last monday for the price adjustment and she it would go through.

The online status still shows OPN (instock and ready to deliver). I have yet to see the price adjustment and my credit card still has temporary charge for the orginal amount, nothing about a price adjustment.

Did all of you who called get some kind of confirmation of price adjustment either from your credit card company or from Office Max? Also, did your online status change from OPN to the delivered code?

For anyone around the Harrisburg area, I returned my WD 120GB 2MB cache drive today,
to the OM at Colonial Park Mall. Union Deposit OM has none left also...

Bought it before the sale but got the Cir.City deal, don't need another one &
didn't want to tie up like $170 up in rebates... Tried to use a coupon but the messed up so I said forget it.

It's unopened.

Go get 'em...

I actually had some trouble using the $30 off $150 coupon at 2 stores and officemax.com.

The first store, where I actually purchased the 120g HD 8mb cache, would not let me use it because they said it was a sale item and would not utilize 2 offers on one product. So I said ok.

The second store said that the printout coupon was only valid at Officemax.com. He said they were different stores. I then said "how could they be different? If I buy something online for pickup, then that would be the same thing." Nonetheless, the assistant manager, mind you, was a prick and would not budge.

Next, I called officemax.com twice. The first time, the lady asked me if the coupon was emailed to me. Being the idiot I am sometimes I said "No." She then said I can't use it. I waited and called again. This time it was a guy. He told me that he couldn't do anything because I purchased it at a store and I should go to the store manager to get it approved.

So in essence, I got shot down 4 TIMES!!!:frown::frown::frown::frown:
I was really pissed off.

Then I thought, its not such a bad deal after all, even without the coupon, I'm still ahead.

So today I was on my way to a party and saw an Officemax store. I said to myself, "what the heck, might as well try it one last time." So I went in the store and asked the manager if he would grant the coupon. To my surprise, he said "YES." I would only have to purchase something else to bring it over $150.

I was thirsty so I got me a Dr. Pepper.

So I returned/repurchased the drive, with a soda and was able to use the $30 coupon.

What a week. Thank God there are many Officemax's around here in NJ.

I guess persistence pays!!!
