which printer is better... the HP DJ5550 or the HP PS7150???
I convinced my mom to get a new printer tomorrow and want to hear what others have to say about these 2 printers... mostly for standard use w/ the occasional printing of a photo.
TIA.

Both printers are very similar they both offer the same print dpi. Although they have different features and are bundled with different ink cartridges. These printers take the No. 56 Black, No. 57 Color, and No. 58 Photo. The deskjet 5550 comes with the 56 black and the 57 color, and the 58 is an optional photo cartridge. The photosmart 7150 comes with the 58 photo and the 57 color, the black is optional. The 58 photo gives the printer true Photoret IV printing technology of 1.2 million color, fade resistance of upto 73 years with using HP Premium Plus paper and upto 4800 x 1200 dpi. You swap out the black 56 and photo 58 depending on what type of print jobs you are doing.
These printers hold only two cartridges, and come with a container to keep the spare in to prevent it from drying up. The photosmart 7150 comes with a photo tray for 4x6 paper, that way you don't swap out your papers, the 5550 doesn't offer this. The 5550 is faster and comes with the "better cartridges" for multipurpose printing and the occasional photo. That gift card would buy you the photo cartridge for even better photos as mentioned earlier. Sound like the 5550 would be better for you. Printers have equal quality (dpi and colors) when using the same cartridges, but the 5550 is faster for regular documents.
If you work for a computer retail, BB, OMAX, CC, etc. sign up on www.hpinfolab.com for hp product training and it would make the deal even sweeter. FREE
Also the 7150 has an extra usb port on the front for direct connection and printing with new hp digital cameras, 320, 620, 720, 812, and 850
There are 3 options to connect the 5550 (dont know about the 7xxx series). I has USB 2.0 vs 1.1 , parallel port or use a JetDirect print server and hang it off your network. I havent measured the speed difference between the 3 yet.
