noob question: all the FAR items in the ad should print out a rebate receipt at the register right?

Can I take the USB2.0 enclosure off the 52x external CD-RW? If so, could I use those adapters to put a 3.5" hard drive in?

Thanks for the deals, I'm looking to get the chairs and the burners.
When I burned at 12x, I was usually OK. When I burned at faster than 12x, even if the burns succeeded, oftentimes subsequent reads of those CDs would indeed result in the "Data error - cyclic redundancy check" error.

As for the USB 2.0 enclosure, many people have reported swappign drives in/out of them. To fit a 3.5" HDD in one, you'll probably need to get 3.5" --> 5.25" drive brackets (so that the 3.5" HDD can be physically mounted into the 5.25" screw holes).

Thanks! That was the information I was looking for. Those CRC errors really piss me off.

GREAT post! Thanks for the hard work.

I tried the CD-RW deal with the three drives FAR AC, but only one of the internal drives was available online. It looks like they are selling the Khypermedia first, and will then put the Cendyne up when they run out of Khype. Anybody else have this issue?

You are correct. The Cendyne isn't advertised at its sale price yet.

Regarding the Cendyne 48x - my OM did not have the sale price or the rebate listed on the shelf but it did ring up at $70 and the rebate receipt printed out.

One of these days I'll pick up a couple of those FAR CDRWs. Right now though I'm waiting on 4 rebates totaling $230.

If you think the drive is overpriced, you should see how much the discs cost
. I really don't know why anyone would buy one of these when you can get a 48x CD-RW and 50CDs for free after rebate.

I was looking at getting the Cendyne 48x12x48x CD-RW, but it's not on-line. Also, the Cendyne MFR-MIR wants original UPC, and the OM-MIR wants the original UPC. How can this be done. I went to my local OM store, and they had this Cendyne CD-RW for $79.99, but NO instant rebate. How can anybody pull this Cendyne deal off. Also, kind of off the subject of rebates, but does anybody know if Officemax sells Cendyne CD-RW's with a black faceplate. THANK YOU

when there is multiple rebates you send the original to the mfr and a copy to the store offering it.

Just had time to install the Khypermedia drive.
I ran some tests using CD Speed and compared it with my 32x12x40x Lite-On drive.

The results were as follows:

- The Lite-On read the disc at an average speed of 27x.
- The K-Hypermedia (supposedly 48x) read the disc at only 21x average.
- The response time on the K-Hypermedia drive was a little lower, at around 86ms.
- The burst speed on Lite-On was considerably faster than it was on the KH drive.

I haven't tried burning anything yet so I hope that doesn't dissappoint me either.
However, the KH drive is far quieter when ejecting/loading than the Lite-On drive.

I guess for a few bucks and change though for tax, you can't really expect much.
Too bad my local OM didn't have the Cendyne model....I would've been all over that.

Great Post, Diggler. I can potentially use the Timeslips (excellent program, BTW) so hopefully it is in stock in the local stores. I also could not find it on line. I guess that means no 30 off 150 coupon for me, but still worth it.

For those new to OfficeMax rebates, read and re-read everything, print very clearly on your forms, photocopy everything and send it certified mail, return receipt requested if a sizeable amount of money involved. You will also need to follow up with letters and phonecalls, if my limited experience with OM rebates is any indication. My experience is limited because they were horrible the two times I have submitted multiple item rebate requests (denying rebates for items I didn't submit, not listing or paying rebates I did submit, etc.). Personally, I'm very leery of them and wouldn't bother at all except for the need for Timeslips.

The Khypermedia CDRW drives from an OM deal two months ago were all Benq drives, AFAIK. That thread also included methods and links to upgrade the firmware on either of the two drives (manufacturered in either China or Malaysia) to 52X.

just some info for the m$ wireless blue mouse free with m$ wireless station.
my blue order is cancel because back order. So, i call the rebate number and confirm that as long as you are within the date, you can buy from different store.

I am going to print the Best buy online 37.99 and go to officemax b&m to PM120%. or staples for 110%. Not that much matter because finally i will get it with a full refund.

That's strange. Personally, OfficeMax rebates have been the best for me. I send them in the day I get the product, then within 3-4 days I get an email that they are processing and I haven't had one rebate turned down. Best Buy on the other hand has been horrible for me.

For anyone getting the Cendyne External 52x CD-RW, the *fine print* on the Cendyne rebate form states, in Step 5, that you must register your product with Cendyne.

It looks like CenDyne is taking a page out of the MadDog rebate book. I've had to register several drives with MadDog to get their rebates.
