So, I saw a commercial for some extra strength omega 3 pill, with a one tablet a day dosage. I can't remember the name, and I'm interested.
Can anyone help me find it?

Thanks

fish oil, or cod liver oil gel pills.

Sams club has 3 levels of fish oil. Omega-3's are omega 3's amirite?

No, not rite. That's okay, I posted in health and fitness for generic answers apparently. What was I thinking?

A specific question was not to be answered by some catch all

I think you might be thinking of Schiff MegaRed Krill oil pills

That's what I'm taking now. I used the fish oil from Costco for a while, hated the aftertaste and started using the enteric coated fish oil, also from Costco. Used that a year or two but the aftertaste still bugged me a LOT. I saw a snip on TV (thedoctors) where Travis plugged Krill oil, said it gives you the same omega 3 fatty acids but there's no aftertaste. What he said was very brief, probably 15-30 seconds, max.

I looked online for deals and saw a coupon at Costco for the Schiff MegaRed Krill oil capsules and bought around a year's supply (at one cap/day). Been taking that (one 300mg cap/day) for a few months now.

How's it compare with fish oil and is one/day enough? I don't have heart disease, but my LDL is borderline bad (160?), and I'm gonna be 68 in a month and my elbows and wrists hurt a lot of the time. I work out a lot!

krill oil = good stuff, but i like fish oil better.

Why?

I take lovaza since it was prescribed to me; I don't get an aftertaste from it although it's listed as a side effect. Apparently, my omega-3 levels were really low.

If you don't have a deficiency, I'd say you shouldn't bother. Although I'm sure someone like eits will say something like as young as possible.
Recent studies have shown that many very young people are at risk, have high cholesterol and high blood pressure, FYI.

Here's the problem though: there are more "problems" chemicals like ALA, DHA, and EPA can help with, not just cholesterol. They are physiologically important lipids, and the CNS has a lot of uses for them. Quite a few studies suggest a strong link between more omega 3s and improvements in some mental health concerns like clinical depression and ADD/ADHD.

When youth don't get enough, it can disrupt healthy neural growth. It's hard to not consume any, but easy to not consume enough with today's modern diets.

Lovaza is kind of a scam perpetrated by pharmaceutical manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline. It actually isn't as good as some of the over the counter fish oils, but it's over twenty times as expensive because they spent the $$$ to get FDA approval. That lets them mark it up ridiculously over the Costco stuff and rape the insurance companies (who in turn rape us.)

More info:

Fish oil: The natural triglyceride form is better

Most people in N. America don't like sardines, but if you do, they're much healthier than taking fish oil capsules (which are made from sardines anyway, but are heavily processed):

38 g of sardines or 2 fish oil softgels? Let's look at the numbers

So should one talk to a doctor or get blook work before taking fish oil pills? Walmart or walgreens carry a good enough pill?

This is what I think he was looking for. Its a high dose little red pill. Walmart sells them, but I for one rather have the real deal instead of more processed stuff in my diet.

I'm taking the Kirkland enteric coated fish oil pills and some red yeast rice pills, per doctor's recommendation. My cholesterol is pretty high, and hopefully this crap will help somewhat.

As I typed this, I burped at my desk, and now my mouth tastes like old salmon. The aftertaste of the fish oil is just plain nasty, but I've got enough in that damn bottle to last a few months.

Try taking the fish before bed or with a big meal. That minimizes the fish burps for me.

That's odd... Been taking fish oil for years and can count the amount of times I got fish burps on my hands.

I take the NOW Ultra Omegas... 4 capsules in one shot after eating half a meal where I then finish my meal.

Costco's where I've been getting mine, I stock up when they are on sale. I hated the fishy aftertaste of even the enteric coated fish oil capsules, I get none of that with the MegaRed krill oil capsules. I take one a day, with the other supplement/vitamins I take and I almost always do it with a meal. My LDL's way down, but I have no idea exactly why. My diet is certainly better.
