because krill oil is a fad, in my opinion. you don't get as much epa or dha in krill oil as you do in fish oil, but you have comparable amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. omega-3s are great and all, but for overall health benefits, it's all about the dha and epa. yes, they all have sufficient amounts for people to be healthy, but the more you get the better and it's hard to find krill oil with as much epa and dha as fish oil offers.

also, you don't really get the fishy burp after taking krill oil supplements, but that's whatever... it isn't worth the extra pricetag, in my opinion. i always tell my patients to freeze their capsules and take their fish oil before bed, that way if they do burp, they'll be asleep.

krill oil, on average, is about 10x more expensive than fish oil, yet it doesn't have nearly the concentration of epa or dha AND it doesn't absorb the omega 3 THAT much better. does it absorb it better? yeah, but not 10x the price better.

I've been taking Nature Made Ultra Omega 3 once a day (as designed). It has 1000mg of Omega 3 between EPA and DHA.

Every now and then I'll take a flax oil pill as well.

I don't know what it was before I took all this seriously -- and I've always been at least moderately active or at my worst in decent shape in terms of cardio -- but a recent lipid panel made the doctor remark: "you have a better lipid profile than most people your age."
And I'm 24, so I must be doing something right.

Other than fish oil, I never come anywhere near fish or any other seafood.

I do spend too much on vitamins though:
The above mentioned omega 3 pills
GNC Men's "Energy" vitamin pack
Glucoseamine Chondroiten MSM pills
Centrum ProNutrients Fruit and Veggie Phytonutrients (also drink v8 ... I loathe the taste of greens too)

Not too mention the various exercise supplements and proteins.

At least my body thus far is at a good level, in terms of "stats" that are easily measured.

Nordic Naturals fish oils is one of the finest (you get what you pay for) fish oils available..one should really research what they are getting because many companies have allowed unsafe mercury levels to seep in and others use much cheaper fish for their oil..

Well, you can say this, but not even the supposedly better companies report their mercury levels. There are only a few brands that have posted analyses of their fish oil. I typically try to buy those.

The only effect of fish oil I'm aware of that was confirmed by studies is lowering triglyceride levels. But if you regularly eat fish, it's very unlikely fish oil supplements will give you any additional benefit.

Here's a comparison of omega-3 oils (fish oil vs cod liver oil vs krill oil vs flaxseed oil)
  • Fish oil and cod liver oil lower triglycerides.
  • Krill oil and flaxseed oil do not seem to be effective.
There is no evidence that these oil help in prevention or treatment of coronary heart disease or any other disease.

Fish oil has also been proven to aid workout recovery. Definitely notice the difference when I eat more fish vs not.
