Nope. Anyone can have 1,000+ PM's but there is one catch.

Give jason a break. This is a small price to pay for no more JRUN. Besides, anyone who doesn't back up things stored on a FREE FORUM deserves to have them lost. There is an export button for a reason. I have no sympathy for people who do not back up things they may need, expecialy when it is only a button.

Hell, I wrote a quick program that I posted in Software that would import from those files and store your PM's forever and ever on your own machine.

And yes, I lost my PM's. but I saw the notifications ALL OVER about a forum upgrade to .NET. They were fRICKING EVERYWHERE!. So I exported them and saved them. If I was a MOD I would have done anyone else who asked. The file was like 20k for a little over 400 PM's.

No, this is NOT a small price to play. JRun was a minor annoyance, loosing all your PM's is a HUGE deal, especially if you frequent the FS/FT forum.

ANd guess what? Just because something is free doesn't mean it absolves the owners of liability. There is a certain level of service expected even with a free service . . . nuking your PM box is definatly out of those bounds.

are you kidding, I never ever saw a single warning on FS/T which uses the PM more than anyone else. I've never lost a message in 5 years, I wouldn't expect to lose them now.

If you frequent the FS/FT forum, then you should be smart enough to do your own backups. You do buy insurance for anythign you ship right? same deal. Besides, FS/FT is a place to get rid of stuff you don't need, and find other stuff from someone else who doesn't need it, not run a buisness.

I am asuming the reason the PM feature is disabled now is because Jason is going to restore them from backup. That means that any PM's from the time of the last backup (probably right before the downtime) to now will be lost.

Kind of disturbing yeah. Fortunately I don't have any current fs/ft deals, so it's no big deal, but I try to be a good trader by logging in daily and checking my box (which is gone) just in case someone responded to an old message.

I trust our kind hosts will fix it, but I hope for the sake of others that some data is recovered.

I didn't see any notice about the upgrade and the danger to PMs.

I just clicked on my Profile button and got this screen. Then that screen would reappear a couple more times as I tried to return to the forums.

I didn't see one specificly naming PM's or anything else really. Just that they were upgrading to .NET. To me that says, "Oh crap, something may not work. better save anything I want".

Maybe I am just too used to things going wrong, or trying to recover crap that people didn't backup *shrug*.
