I've never had DirecTV go out. Ever. I had cable go out all the time.
The ways Comcast sucks worse than anything:
1. Customer service is comically bad. Almost seems intentional.
2. Equipment sucks.
3. Far more outages.
Sounds like anything other than them is an upgrade.
But...but...it's COMCASTIC!
As I understand it, DirecTV / Dish Network / etc use dynamic bit rates. Most channels are so highly compressed that it's a stretch to call it "HD." The highly-rated shows and events with the most viewers get a bigger slice of the bandwidth pie, so you usually don't end up watching the worst channels...but many channels are counted as "HD" just because they
*can* be whenever they're playing something popular enough to have a higher bit rate allocated.
Anyway, I guess the reliability of satellite TV depends on your geographic location and climate.
