Yes, I got in on the HP Stream 7 Windows 8.1 $99 tablet Hot Deal.

Now I'm finally starting to understand how they are becoming popular.

I guess they're somewhat like APUs. Not excessively powerful or productive for any one thing (no keyboard like a laptop, no powerful CPU and gobs of RAM like a desktop PC), but a decent compromise for a jack-of-all-trades product.

Best of all, it's kind of "fun", I guess. Another way to say, nicely, that it's essentially a "toy", and will be unlikely to replace desktop PCs and laptops entirely.

But overall, a nice addition to my harem of tech.

I'm finally getting one... I think the Samsung Note. I've been using a Kindle w/e-ink for reading but I might switch to the tablet. Mostly I want it to have more space for working over ssh and handling email and stuff.

Although $99 bucks for a decent tablet is crazy.

After getting a smart phone, I don't really have a use for a tablet. I will be using mine thanksgiving when I help my daughter make dinner. She pulled a bunch of stuff off Pinterest, and wants to make that. Should be interesting. By interesting, I mean a fuckin' disaster of course, but no balls, no glory. At least she's making the effort.

Oh. what's the tablet for? To read recipes on a slightly bigger screen, and no keys to drop food in.

Hp really set the standard for pricing. Now I refuse to buy anything in tech unless it's $99 or lesser lol

"Slightly" is quite noticeably bigger, best crapper companion ever, best Dr. appt take-along ever. Sure a smartphone can do most of the same but I don't like data plans.

Tablets are great tools, but I think you'll find the e-ink Kindles are far superior for reading.

I have my eye on this tablet, but I already have too many tablet devices floating around the house (iPad, Nexus 7, Touchpad, Kindle, etc). If Wink would create a Windows 8.1 app, I could see buying a few of these for use as controllers.

I have a couple of kindle readers from Amazon, great for reading, battery life is very long compare to the fancier tablets.

Tablet and smartphones = nice to have for Toilet trips and Travel.

That's about it, and even then they get boring quick....

I just got a laptop with a touch screen and the experience is a lot better than I had expected. A keyboard is still invaluable to me

My boss just got a Surface Pro 3 the other thing and he let me use it; I am in love with the thing. I find my Tab 2 nearly useless, but having an SP3 with the keyboard and usable Office, etc, is just awesome.

I didn't jump in when the iPad came out. I bought 2 of the HP Touchpads from the fire sale. What I like about tablets the most is the fact that their low power usage when idle.

This essentially makes it possible to leave them on, ready to power the screen on at any moment. So you can pick up a tablet, pull up a web browser and surf the web from a recliner, etc...while watching TV without having to boot a laptop or PC....then put it down just as easily.

I still wish I had one with 4G,but won't pay for it. I've been sharing my 4G connection with a wifi hotspot app for a few months now and will likely do this when taking weekend vacations out at the lake. (to stream music and read the news/weather)

I got my wife an iPad mini for a few hundred bucks earlier in the year and it was a hit. The user experience with the iPad is so much more polished than the Touchpad and even the Windows Phone I just bought... IOS is somewhat superior in look & feel and I'm not a fan of Apple.

I normally use a surface pro 2. I'm on my work laptop ATM and there are so many times where I try to touch the screen to scroll it's embarrassing.

The novelty wears off after a while. I've had 5 or 6 tablets now as I keep trying to convince myself that I can actually do anything worthwhile on one, it's a lost cause. If all you are going to do is consume media, sure, "good enough". But as soon as you want to type something...
