Nobody should ever make the mistake of thinking that the elderly are the "kindly grandparently" type (generally speaking). Most are in reality the "get out of the way because I deserve it" type.
When younger people stop rubber-stamping legislation that hands a large part of their income over to seniors, it may stop this mind-set by both groups.

Oh? And where did you come up with this fascinating statistic? You do realize that most people who are elderly now worked long and hard at crap jobs (by and large) to feed money into this country? But because of the sh!tstorm that is Social Security, a lot of elderly people live well below the poverty line and are too demented to do anything about it.
I worked in a nursing home that specialized in Alzheimer's for five years, and I can tell you that most of their actions are the sickness and not a true measure of their personality. Do you BLAME them for having a disease which they have no control over? They don't CHOOSE to be senile and have little comprehension of the present; it's not like that think it'll be neat-o to act psychotic. Some of them are just bitter people, yes, but that doesn't make them any less human.
You don't think the elderly deserve to be taken care of? At what age does a human being stop deserving care? Should we cut off everyone over 65? 60? When do they stop being human beings? When do they no longer deserve money that they paid into the system over the years? Should we just say fvck it and cut off everyone who has a disease and can't provide for themselves? Survival of the fit taken to psychotic extremes?
