Yep.

Same feeling when on FarCry with flashlight in research or regulator levels.

Auto human response to get up, turn off computer and get some sunlight.

If a first-person shooter makes you nauseous, I wonder what your reaction to Descent II or Descent 3 would be. Six degrees of freedom. If you get bored fighting right-side up (if you can even tell which is right-side up) just roll over and fight upside down for a while. Or sideways. The robots won't mind a bit.

Happens to me once in a while with a new game or one I haven't played in a while. A few sessions of 15-30 minutes playing with rest in between (a few hours or even a day) and you should get used to it.

Ooh ouch imagine playing a driving game or better yet, a flight sim. Ugh messy keyboard.

I have no problems watching TV, playing any games, or riding in cars or airplanes. Maybe I'm that special breed...

I played hl2 earlier and got a massive headache after playing for 2.5 hrs...guess I won't be doing that again. I think part of it was related to skipping eating lunch to play it.

The original Doom and Duke Nukem used to do that to me. I also had it happen once playing JediKnight when looking up and down alot. Never had it happen in a flight sim though.

Decent!! man that was on of the first good games I had, it came with my P75 when I bought it lol.

Ohhhhh yes Did you notice in Descent 3, that one of the D3 maps takes you through the first mine in Descent 1 (in its obliterated state, since you blew its reactor once upon a time) Subtle... I like!

For me, it's more about realism - the Descent series doesn't get my juices flowing because it's not near as real (Think 1 and 2 - 3 was just an extension of the same idea) as HL2 looks.
I also can't watch anyone else play a fps lest I start feeling queezy.

Don't know if it's motion sickness exactly. I get incredibly naseous on long plane flights (takeoff and landing is a killer) and sometimes in the car, but not usually because of games.

If frames/s are too low, I can develop a walloping headache, but usually nothing that makes me queasy.

If you really believe that motion sickness is your problem, there are magnetized wrist bands that apparently work... just ordered one myself but haven't had a chance to test it out yet.

The problem occurs both in VR situations and in more prosaic settings like motion sickness. If what your eyes tell you (you're moving) is out of sync with what your inner ear tells you (you're not moving) a lot of people get nauseous and toss their cookies. Once you pass a certain point on the learning curve, no problem. I'd guess the reason some games work for you and others don't has to do with field of view, height of the camera off the ground, or some other perceptual detail that doesn't fit in to your current mental model of what an FPS is supposed to feel like. You might check the VSYNC (Vertical Sync) setting on these games. Often VSYNC is OFF by default (because it provides higher apparent framerates) but not having VSYNC can make people sick due to the 'tearing effect.' Turning on VSYNC generally makes the image look more stable and smooth. This might be your problem. Just a thought. Turn on VSYNC and force your 3D apps to use a high refresh rate (75 hz if possible). Or maybe get a wireless controller and dance around in front of the screen in tune to what your character is doing so your ears don't get confused. It will make you look like a dork, but then again you are talking about playing a FPS so who cares?

Be careful...

What you throw up must come down!

The worst game (for me anyways) was Forsaken.

Cheers!

LOL I just noticed my refresh rate was at 60hz... I upped it to 75 just now. I just formatted so it slipped my mind.

I don't think I've ever had that happen with any FPS... my roomate used to say he couldn't watch me play because it made him feel sick, I was like wtf? I guess it's more common than I thought though....

Anyone that suffers motion sickness should try picking up a little negative ion generator. They're marketed as air cleaners but also often prevent motion sickness. Even if it doesn't work at least your room wont smell like puke.

btw they work in cars as well

Just the whole running at 60hz thing would have done it to you. CRT monitors running at 60hz are the scourge of society.
