Amazon.com

The woman approved this as apparently I've been good this year and we have no other pressing issues that we need to use our tax return money on.

This is a huge upgrade for us. We're going from a 36" Sony WEGA tube, non-HD that weighs 275 lbs., to a screen 10" bigger but weighs less than 1/4th of it. I thought the price was unbeatable, and there are nothing but positive reviews on the shipping company that Amazon uses for this TV.

In my flurry of research it seems that this TV is a gamer's dream so I'm super excited to see how GTA4 looks on this beast. I typically like to research my electronic purchases extensively as I tend to be very weary about things like that. But all roads of research kept leading back to Samsung (apparently they're the gods of the LCD tv market?). So I only spent 2 days before making up my mind.

Anyone else have this model? I'll be sure to report back when I get everything up and running. It should be here in a few days. Hoping to have it for this upcoming weekend.

Congrats on your purchase. I've not seen that TV in person but my sister just got the Samsung LNT5271F. I only watched a little HD on it and didn't try their PS3. HD looked very good, SD not so good. I did notice some weird picture anomalies but I'm not sure if that was the source or the TV.

If you haven't been to AVSForum, I would suggest going there after you've had some time with the TV if you have any questions or concerns.

Granted that a search like this could certainly make one tired, the word you're looking for is "wary".

Enjoy the TV!

Well the good news is you picked a darn good TV.

The bad news is if you don't like it, there aint much better you can find outside of the new Pioneers for almost twice the price :-D, not that there is a chance you won't be loving it for some time.

Nice choice, although I would have went with the Blue touch of color myself

Honestly, that's about the only thing I would have done differently!

Is the blue touch of color out yet? As far as I have seen its only red, and they are wicked slow on rolling out the other colors.

I got the LN46A550, and I love it. You must be really thrilled. I never thought SD could look this good!

Im a big fan of the 650s when it comes to high end. The 46 and 52 650s look amazing and do SD really well. Check yours out very well when you get it since a friend of mine got one from BB with some backlight bleed.... I gotta say the 650 is a better value than the XBR4 and once calibrated can look just as good. I know most of us have mixed feeling on ISF calibration but it can really do wonders.

If it comes with backlight bleeding... is that considered completely unacceptable and I should return it? What about dead pixels?

When you're paying 2K+, I'd expect perfection but I understand that LCD technology isn't flawless.

One time I opened and returned 4 of the same monitor to a local BB and they never said a thing. If I pay for something I expect perfect or near perfect for an item. I don't think its unreasonable to expect a monitor without highly visible flaws, now one dead pixel in a corner wouldn't bother me much but is it indicative of some underlying problem that will manifest itself into something worse-usually right after the mfg warranty expires-is another thing. Backlight bleed to me falls into a 100 percent return category from me since darker images or a black background would make me stare at it incessantly since I am ocd....

Depends on whether you intend to use onboard sound, as the added subwoofer could make the audio better. Also depends on whether the on board 1 GB of storage and ethernet features are something you might use. Otherwise it is fundamentally the same as the 650, but I could see the woofer being worth the extra 125-200 bucks it costs.

How does PQ of this Samsung compare to the current 2008 lineup of Panasonic Plasmas?

It's just a woofer, not a sub-woofer.

That is the model I want too, but the price is still a little high for my budget. I'm hoping the price drops a bit.

My gf just bought this tv and loves it! Have you tested out the auto motion 120hz frame rate? Movie watching is never the same when you upgade from 60hz. All the fast action sequences look so smooth and objects/people no longer look as blurred into the background (they almost look as if they are coming out the screen). But of course she and most of my friends can't tell the difference.

I think AMP is terrible (as is other companies "AMPs"), it gives movies a soap opera effect.

I'm not alone in this thinking either, lots of people hate the new AMP feature.

Don't get me wrong, I like the new 120Hz panels, but I do not like AMP.

And lots of people love it. It is really a matter of preference with AMP.

Yeah that's true, can't argue with that.

I bet though that the AMP looks good for live tv or sports. I haven't really seen AMP on anything live yet so I can't say for sure, but it seems logical to me. With movies, I still prefer that movie/blur effect. When AMP is on for movies, it becomes too smooth, almost as if it was a "making of" kind of movie. When that happens, things look fake.
