OMG! Kobe > Shaq?

Speaking less than 48 hours after the Lakers were beaten by the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Finals, Kupchak also said the team will do whatever it takes to keep Kobe Bryant, and trading Shaquille O'Neal is a possibility if the star center demands it.

Oneal = 3X finals MVP....Kobe does not have any....but does have youth.

t-mac left the raptors because he wanted to be the star. if shaq goes there it will be just like kobe.

I think Shaq would retire before leaving LA. Even his old college coach seems to think that Shaq could retire at any time, citing all of the problems with being a guy as big as Shaq. Mainly the whole foot deal.

Shaq has already made comments he would be angry towards the front office if Phil Jackson is forced out. Thats whats happening. I could see Shaq becoming frustrated with the management and demanding to be traded.

Theres talk that Phil's fate will be decided tomorrow.

Shaq is still upset about the negotiations for his contract extension were cut off in Feb. And hes already made it pretty clear hed be upset if Jackson is forced out.

It seems to me, the Lakers are more intrested in keeping Kobe, than keeping Shaq happy. They are potentially going to off Kobe $140million+ over 7.

Jackson being forced out(granted hes not under contract anymore), and the talk of Kobe getting a blockbuster deal, while Shaq not getting his extension, equals one unhappy big man.

I think Kupchak comments reflect what he thinks will happen.

Uh thats politics. Jackson does not control his fate and Kobe isnt exactly the biggest Jackson supporter. Even if Jackson wanted to come back its extremely likely the front office doesnt want him. The Lakers will be rebuilding, and they want a new coach as well. They dont want to rebuild with a coach that wont be around for more than a year or two.

How about this trade?

Shaq traded to Seattle for: Ray Allen, Vladimir Radmanovic, future 1st round pick.

Lakers pick up the free agent Brent Barry in the offseason.

This works for two reasons:
Seattle gets the most dominant player in the game. The Sonics have tried the Ray Allen road to little avail. Plus, with a rising star in Reshard Lewis, Seattle can rebuild their franchise around the Oneal-Lewis combo. Could work out very nicely for Seattle.

Lakers don't need another big time superstar like Shaq. They can concentrate on rebuilding the team around Kobe. What they really need, and what they were really lacking this year, is a solid outside shooter. Ray Allen is that player. Also, with Radmanovic, the Lakers get a good, servicable forward. They sign Brent Barry in the offseason and get another great outside shooter. With the combination of Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, Brent Barry, Kareem Rush, a resigned Derek Fisher, and Luke Walton, the Lakers will be absolutely SCARY from beyond the arc.

EDIT: Also, to fill the center role, the Lakers could draft the 7-3 Korean player, Ha-Sueng Jin.
