I had an...unusual event this morning.
I'm one of the few who turn their PC off when it's not being used...so, I turned the PC on as I headed out to make my morning coffee and have my first smoke of the day.
When I came back in the house, I started down the hallway to my "office," and I heard an unusual noise...it was my GPU fan running at about 100%.
I knew I had nothing running that should kick the fan into high gear, so I entered the room with some trepidation.
Sure enough, my CRT monitor was still dark and the LED showed the monitor wasn't receiving a signal.
With no screen, all I could do was hit the power button and hope for the best.
Fortunately, the PC rebooted and everything came back on in a normal fashion. <phew>
I haven't taken time to dig through all the event viewers yet, but a quick look this morning showed the following:

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source.
(turns out that motherboard manager...that doesn't work with Vista 64...never got installed and triggered this last event)
So...while I'm still not sure what the hell happened...it doesn't seem to be TOO serious...and things seem to be working just fine.
The Windows "Problem Center" shows that my sound card isn't compatible with my version of Windows...in spite of having no dedicated sound card and only Vista 64 bit drivers for the onboard sound...<shrug>
