FO 76 a multiplayer game? It is about damn time. I have been wanting this for far too long. The base building is one of the highlights to FO4 and I loved it.

I'm a survival fan, if I can craft, gather and build I am happy.

Id be happy building a base *if* that had any relevance to gameplay, which it didnt in f4. Id be happy to play a survival game too, were it not that Bethesda games are about as difficult as Minecraft.

Just saw a Fallout announcing trailer and got very excited. Don't know why but I'm waiting for something beyond my expectations with Fallout 76. I hope that new version will be better than previous ones.

exactly how I felt about it in FO4. Base building was fun for a little while, until you realized there was little to no point to it. Other than bringing up the console and spawning a bunch of critters and bandits and mutants to attack your cool new base, it was never going to be tested. A few turrets here and there to protect some settlers is all that game required of this mechanic.

or just let the settlers die. Because they were annoying.

Im sure 76 will have a lot of new features and things which you will be free to ignore like every F game ever. Hardcore mode?? Has ANYONE ever starved to death in fallout? Surely not. Bethesda will keep making "survival" games where you can fast trsvel with 299 pounds of gear. And where a radioactive wasteland is full of cereal boxes, chatty neighbors and anti-rad medicine hidden in paper-waste baskets.

I cannot forgive the AAA industry for making almost exclusively casual-friendly games. If i buy a game set in a post-apocalyptic world, more so an RPG, i expect it to be BRUTAL.

So, if there is a survival element, bring it on. But ill be surprised if it's anything but a chore.

More Rumours
So the multiplayer aspect sounds a bit more like dying light or border lands 2 than rust with persistent worlds/servers. This will work really well if it has fun quests to do along with a lot of other events. Dying light and shadow warrior 2 are a blast to play in coop. I'm just wondering what the point of base building will be unless you're actually defending it.

Dying Light is a fun game hidden beneath a mountain of terrible gear mechanics. Taking 30 swings to kill a zombie with a weapon that breaks after 25 is the definition of not fun. They needed to crank up zombie lethality and just remove all the frustrating weapon stats.

Yeah, the weapons system killed Dying Light for me. A friend was really into it and it was fun co-op but I lasted maybe 6 hours or so after the annoying forced intro. I get really annoyed when a game forces you to run a tutorial. GTA5 is another that grinds my gears for that. If I remember right, I lost a really nice crafted weapon that I had had for all of 10 minutes in a boss fight.

Dying Light gets fun when you build up your fighting skill to the point of usefulness. maybe two or three hits to murder a zombie.

The problem is that all of the big studios see right is the $$$ signs in their eyes - if it isn't multi player and if they can not lock you in their walled garden to continuously sell you through transactions/microtransactions, they are not interested.
And if it is walled garden with online microtransaction, who is then interested?

Fallout 4 was very boring for me - felt like forced overlay of Sim over what was supposed to be an RPG. Appealing to different demographics /going for female crowd?

if you want an RPG, play an RPG - there are many good ones right now which is great to see..

There were mods that made the game a lot like you said where you had to eat or couldn't fast travel or could only save at certain safe spots thus made base building a lot more valuable.

But it does mean your progress will slow down a lot and it can become a chore as that's what results if you try to make it too realistic as you can't really have one without another.

You didn't even need a mod for that in fallout 4. Just select Survival Mode. Have to eat, have to drink, have to be picky about what you carry since their is a weight limit, can only save when you find a bed/sleeping bag, no fast travel. You basically have to set up settlements everywhere you go to serve as a sort of base camps before you start exploring. It was ok, but they should have allowed for fast travel between settlements at least. It's a drag walking 3/4 across the map to turn in some stupid Preston mission. You could use vertibirds, but I never got that far before I got burned out on it.

I dont remember there being a survival mode in f4. Weight limits are laughable (who the hell carries 100 lbs of gear in the desert), sleep still cured hp, there is still a ridiculous abundance of food, rads are still a minor annoyance.

If you drink out of the Tiber river today, you'll be dead within the day. But in post nuclear war Boston, you can chug away at the Charles with little or no side effects.

Disabling fast travel *could* be the way to go if the game was designed that way. Sure it's slower, its meant to be - thats how you get the feeling that "geez, that place IS REALLY FAR".

Survival mode was added 8-9 months after release as part of some update.

You have issues about the way you sometimes decide to reply. If you have an opinion, you do need to write it out, we cant just guess what it is.

I'm pretty sure everyone else understood just fine (and no, I wasn't being mean, just poking fun).

100% incorrect.
Stop liking things that i don't like!

I haven't seen a good survival game with great base building, would love for a good one to come around, you guys are still getting your precious single player game in F5 i believe.

Lets look at Wasteland 1 for a second. The first town out of the ranger center, Highpool, if you step in the water, you are easily going to drown. You kill rex and are sent to get the motor for the water purifier, and the cabmaster gives you the wrong info, and you get surrounded by the Topeka clan .. bam, dead.
Then you are offto the agricultural centre, were it's wave after wave of giant bunnies and you only have the 9mm and 45, with barely a couple clips each. Even with cheating at the ranger center, you have barely the ammo to make it to Harrythe Bunnymasterwho will probably wipe out your party.
You touch radiation, you are basically dead. And you cant even see it unless you have a geiger counter. The bloodstaff cult will lock you in a room full of rad, or you can aggro the whole temple. Enter Las Vegas from the wrong side, and the Scorpitron will murder you. Or maybe aggro the whole police station. You are ridiculously underpowered when you take on Redhawk's clan and they have 1981 ARs. The monks in the citadel will tank a full auto from a 1981 at 0 dmg and only LAW rockets can take down Brother Goliath before you have stuff like the Meson Cannon.
And you cant win the game unless you learn Toaster Repair.

Yup, totally the same as a bethesda game.

Shades of New Vegas. “I’m off to scavenge for food. Five sets of armor: check. Six identical shotguns: check. Seven identical rifles: check.” When Salisbury steak last two hundred years but an assault rifle in perfect shape breaks after two hundred shots, the developer needs a Director-level Chief Reality Officer.

Anyway, so far Fallout 76 seems like a hard pass for me but at this point there’s no way to weed out the FUD. But it seems like Bethesda saw the popularity of survival games and said “That’s what we want to build!” without realizing that by the time they get to market, the craze will have passed, leaving a very crowded market competing for an ever-diminishing pool of player dollars. Might be a fun Fallout game, of course; we’ll know more after tonight. I just have this nightmare of being at work and my phone saying “Attention, your base is being raided! Would you like to purchase a Defense Pack? Only $6.95 in our special currency which we only sell in $10 increments!” Luckily I know how to absolutely prevent that from happening.

Forgot to add my prediction for the twist: your character is a cow. And you get continuously milked. Whee!

Well, now we know. Fallout 76 is online only. You CAN play solo, in your own little instance, but it's an online game with dedicated servers which will support the game "for years to come." I assume that means they will release DLC expansions, although it might just be optimism and hype. But since it's online only, there won't be mods except through Creation Club. And Creation Club won't be able to do mods like Modern Firearms which fundamentally change the game or West Virginia Interiors which add content to explore. There are two possibilities, pay-to-win loot boxes to dominate PvP or cosmetic only micro transactions which don't affect game play. Think of a Barbie Dress-up/Barbie Dream Home mashup where Ken or Skipper can launch a nuke into your nicely decorated base.

It looked extremely pretty, which is good since there won't be mods to replace textures or improve performance. I'm a bit confused though. Todd Howard says the Overseer gives you a mission which takes you across the whole state, but clearly the emphasis is on base building and defense. But if you're on the important mission across the whole state, you should be building a vehicle, not a base. Anyway, so far it's a hard pass for me, but I can imagine that some people will find it attractive. If your big gripes about Rust were too much reality and not enough nukes, this is right up your alley.
