This game looks like such shit, which kills me since I loved all of the mainline Fallout games (eg 1,2,3,NV,4). Bethesda is dead to me after turning one of the truly great single player story franchises into another crap shooter. Everyone you see now is a real person? You make your own stories? Bullshit, you make the story Bethesda, that's why I would have been paying you $60 (probably more like $90 since I would have bought the season pass too if this was a real Fallout game). That was the most disappointing E3 moment I have ever seen. And after all that talk about how Bethesda was still dedicated to single player gaming.

I agree 100%. No story, not a real Fallout game. Sucks.

Dozens of players but no NPCs? My only thought is they will be using "real" offline characters to fill in the world w/ different settlements, on top of whoever is playing live in the server. So basically just more blandness.

Everything I don't want in a Fallout game in one package -- quite the accomplishment.

Pretty much my reaction to this POS. I guess I can avoid everything Bethesda until around 2023 when we might see Elder Scrolls VI (hopefully not Elder Scrolls 76).

Wait, so... "no games without other players".

So why did he say during the conference that it's playable solo? If there's no game (or 'server') without the presence of at least one other player, and on top of that if PvP is always enabled and free-for-all then not only is proper "group play" impossible on a technical level but solo play effectively does not - actually - exist.

Does anyone have a link to the interview or whatever it was where Todd gave that information? I absolutely need to know if they really lost their mind, or if it was just Todd making a very bad attempt at joking.
Oh, you can certainly play solo, and presumably there’s the one quest that takes you across the whole state. But you can’t play in a solo game instance - you’ll always share the map with “dozens” of players - and you can’t turn off PvP. So if you fancy sneaking across a large map avoiding every person in the world - with nothing else to do - then this is the Fallout for you.

I don’t have a link, but Juicehead has the interview with commentary on YouTube. Should be pretty easy to find.

Well F76 is obviously headed in a new direction.

As a player - who didnt find F3 / FNV / F4 in any way challengibg - i welcome the idea of a survival game where you need to survive.
There's plenty of shooters out there that are part-instanced and are basically long matches, arena style, on a bigass map, and you win some resources to take back home: escape from tarkov, survarium, the various battle royale games ..

What i am concerned with is the way that Bethesda is going to handle combat. FPS skill is something they have clearly not taken into consideration in Skyrim, and the gun machanics in new-fallout were very much on the casual side.

For me, im not sure i want to play a survival shooter if the gunplay handles like Garden Warfare; and if it doesnt ... well, it's gonna be a massacre.

plenty of MMOs are playable solo, even though the world is persistent, always online, always with other players around. I guess the difference here is that there is something about there being no NPCs? That would make the play a bit different from the 100% soloable MMOs that I am thinking of (Star Wars TOR, the Guild Wars games)

Well, not *per server* but per each instance, multiple instances on each server.

Guys, it's PUBG under a different name.

Then it should be called Fallout Battlegrounds the mMO (mini Multiplayer Online), calling it Fallout 76 is an insult.

Ok well, yeah but, as it has nukes, i imagine the instances to be either time-limited or event-limited; there's got to be some way to reset a pvp game if its going badly. Thas why i was more keen on calling it a longer PUBG rather than Ark.

I still think F76 is going to be a smash hit. Bethesda make fun games for people who want to have fun, Fallout has a huge following of people many of whom, are not so critical.

I understand now why its called 76 ... because its NOT Fallout 5.

My predictions are that it will be a reasonably fun MMO that will be praised for having resolved the many issues that plague games such as Rust, it will have better visuals than F4, casual players will praise the lore, and streamers will make millions.

And y'all will finally understand why i thought F3 was **** compared to F2.

So it looks like this isn't really a Fallout game, but an offshoot like Fallout Tactics or something. Maybe to the Elder Scrolls what ESO is? I dunno.

Is Bethesda essentially marketing this as the next Fallout game, or the next game in the Fallout franchise?

Going with "76" instead of a sequential number in the series, or location like with FO:NV (though I guess Bethesda wouldn't be doing that...) seems a bit of a tell that maybe it shouldn't be considered the same type of thing. ...that being said, keeping an MMO type game going requires lots of resources and dedicated teams that will remove interest from making the next actual Fallout game.

ah, didn't even see your post but yeah, I agree. Though I'd still prefer Fallout 5 rather than this.

Take the fallout name, throw it into the bin. thanks Bethesda. There are enough online kill everyone you meet and be a dick games out there already. Fallout now gets to be in that crowd of garbage.

I still don't understand why they used the Fallout name for Fallout 3. I'd imagine about 95% of people who loved Fallout 1 or 2 loved both. Fast forward 10 years and they drop a completely different style of game and call it Fallout 3. Everyone I know who loved 1 and 2 hated 3. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I don't see why they took something with a passionate fan base and genericized it for a new audience. They could have released almost the same game with a different name and not pissed off all of the Fallout 1 and 2 fans.

Now they've done the same thing to the 3 and 4 fans. Must be something they enjoy

This is not Fallout 5. This is a spinoff not a sequel. It is like Fallout Shelter. They are using the world building done in the other games to do something new. You should be glad for this because with the success of Pillars of Eternity and Wastelands maybe we will see another Fallout game in that genre it in the future. It would make a good android tablet game. It just won't be Fallout 5, it will be another spinoff like Fallout 76.

They talked about how after release; modding will be available as well as private servers. That right there tells me it is not a true MMO style game and it won't have a monthly fee. If they allow private servers then they would not require a monthly fee to play. So that's great news.

They also mentioned that PVP is optional. If someone wants to PVP with you they have to challenge you. If you decline then they cannot do anything to you at all. That doesn't sound like a battle royal to me.

I'd like to add that this vault 76 is the first vault to open. This is a prequel to all other fallout games. There aren't any NPC's because none of the other vaults opened yet and there is no one left in the world other than mutants and beasties. That actually makes sense to me. You are the first person from a vault to step foot into the wasteland.

I think it's going to be very cool.

Then I'm one of the exceptions. I've replayed FO 1 multiple times and beaten The Master through brute force, stealth, and conversation. I've laughed my way through a cretin playthrough of FO 2 (try setting INT to the lowest setting, they wrote special dialog for it and even changed how you solve things).

I was wary of FO3 like all (True Scotsman) Fallout fans, but it ended up being a decent game with a weak main quest like most Bethesda efforts. They successfully revived the franchise and even brought in Obsidian to give us much better storytelling for New Vegas.

It's too bad that as usual Obsidian failed at the QA / debugging stage and got shafted out of their bonus because that led to poor review scores. It was somewhat self-inflicted but still a shame.

Despite giving them credit for FO3-NV-4, I currently have no interest in 76. Oh well, I guess I'll load up some mods and replay one of the others while I wait another 5 years
