So yesterdays beta was somewhat of a disappointment. First of all 4 hours is just too little to really understand anything. I get the fact that the test is for them, not for us, but I don't give a damn. Many people, including myself preordered and we deserve to play early as much as we want. I demand it.
Anyhow, here are some quick thoughts:
1)This is basically a Fallout 4 mod. Not an entire new game. I think it was very brazen of them to literally use the same exact assets and not change a damn thing about how things looked or felt. I ran across a church, and literally knew its layout exactly having been to countless identical churches countless time in FO4. Same thing with many other aspects of the game.
On one hand, it's good, because having played FO4 you will feel right at home, on the other hand it's lame to throw the same exact shit at us for $60 all over again.
2)The multiplayer aspect feel like a nagging nuisance, rather than a fun convenience. People keep yapping into their mic while I try to sort my inventory, skills or listen to a holotape. Why cant they all just.. Shut up?
People take away from the immersion of the game, they remove any sort of spookiness or surprise factor. Their pretense trivializes what Fallout is all about. The challenge is nullified in a team, and loot drops get taken before you can get to them. Sometimes you will conveniently stumble upon a dead player that was killed by something loot his corpse, and you are instantly rich! It's ridiculous! I found a corpse and looted stuff off of it that would have taken me hours to obtain through quests or exploration.
3)The new card perk system... I just don't like it. Not sure yet why exactly, but I can feel I don't.
4)VATS was a big part of the game.... There's no more VATS. Just aim and fire... Kinda lame.
5)Too much orange, yellow and red tones in the game.
6)I didn't do any PvP, but it's not like I wanted to anyway.
I am reluctant to cancel my pre-order. It's Fallout, after all. A lame, derivative, crippled, watered down Fallout, bogged down by the unnecessary multiplayer aspect, but a Fallout nevertheless.
